There was a big article on this in Sand Sports way back in the eighties or nineties for the Webber 48's.  What they did though is remove the floats, needle and seats and put a dam inside the bowl that was the height that you wanted your fuel level to be.  Then drilled and tapped the bowl below the dam for the suction of the pump to pull the fuel out.  This was a poor man fuel injection.  You do not want the floats and needle and seats in the carbs.  That screws things up.  You took the needle and seats and put a tube that went to the bottom of the bowl so the fuel did not foam going in.  I did this with a set of 48's on a corvair and it ran great.  The fuel goes in the very bottom of the bowl, fills to the what use to be flow level then up and over the dam and then out of the bowl. Mite mention that the evac pump must handle more then the inbound pump can put out.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

This makes a LOT of sense. I have 2 of the Holley 830 gas carbs. I might just try this on one. If it works on it I'd be likely to do the same to the E85 850 carb. Fast, due to how the float bowls are made on a Holley, the same thing would be accomplished by just removing the float, fabbing the tube from the fuel inlet to bowl bottom(likely need a restriction of some kind though,IMO to allow for big pump but regulated so return pump would not need be nearly as large.) and connecting return line to the sight screw boss in the bowl. Wouldn't harm the carb and it could be returned to original if needed later on. Hmmmmm.

So since a carb has a set of problems unique to it and an injected solution would solve all of them why spend the time on the carb?  Just the challenge?  Just curious?
You smell that?

Simplicity. No electronics. Baling wire and a pair of pliers fixes it. Etc. Carbs really aren't the problem most think they are. People just don't know how they work and therefore can't really tune one. The only thing FI can do that a carb can't is run upside down. Well, actually they CAN. Think weed eater or chainsaw.

Skip the sump pump/sucker carb trick. That was the hot set-up before the spring loaded needles. It should be left in 1980 where it originated.

Center hung baffled bowls with jet extenders to the middle of the bowl and spring loaded needles. End of problems. The last rick is tacking a rubber hose about 10" long and putting 1 1" slight lengthwise in the middle of it. Put the air cleaner stud through the slit and put the hose over the breather tubes. Instant anti-slosh. Just like the off-road carbs Holley now sells.

The sucker set-up just ad's twice as many potential leaks and pump problems.

Actually the rubber hose thing went out years ago when Holley came out with the antislosh "whistles" many years ago that install in the metering blocks vent.

Neither the whistles nor the rubber hose trick does a thing about having overfilled bowls tho. All either will do is prevent fuel from flowing out the vent tubes directly into the intake ,flooding engine.

 LMAO
If all goes well today it'll have all the shocks/bypasses mounted by tonight. All major, critical fabbing will be done. Bunch of small stuff from this point on. Really getting excited about this build.
