Gear ratio help....
« on: May 14, 2009, 08:41:12 AM »
OK so this is what ive got so far. The MC motor has a 16 tooth sproket on it and im trying to figure out exactly what size tooth would be good for the honda tranny. Just kinda looking for opinions here.

Honda tranny gear ratio=
1st gear Ratio 3.25
2nd gear Ratio 1.909
3rd gear Ratio 1.125
4th gear Ratio 0.909
5th gear Ratio 0.702
Final Drive Ratio 4.25

and the gear ratio for the MC tranny= well hell..i cant find it.

Imo the gixxer 6 needs about 7:1 final reduction to the tires. They arte low torque motors to begin with, I would think a 2:1 reduction to the trans would substantially extend chain life, and then take advantage of the higher gears in the honda trans, I would pressume the honda trans could easily handle the 600 torque at 2:1 if not a bit more even...

Personally I'd plan on using 4th and 5th in the honda trans We really need to know the ratios of the G6er to give a better answer than that so far as the reduction needed from the engine to the tranny.

From my personal experience with a 24" tire, It took 6:1 to be effective from the engine to the tires, and that was with a jackshaft....
