Sand Tires
« on: December 26, 2008, 02:14:36 PM »
Looking for some input on sand tire sizes for MC powered car 1000-1500 lbs.

I will list some links for what I have found, even though none of them provide the information I am looking for.

http://www.sandtiresunlimited.com/index.html

http://www.funrunr.com/sandtires.htm

http://www.xtremetireonline.com/

http://www.fullertonsandsports.com/        Thanks Fabr....

It seems that there are two basic manufacturers, Extreme and Sand Tires Unlimited.  The tires that seem to be the size I would want are STU 1300 pluses, or Extreme Holeshots.  Both are roughly 31" tall (carcass), and may be similar in width. (all real info is withheld)  Both also have three different paddle cut options.  Any input anyone has would be appreciated.

I have considered going even larger, because it would probably give a cushier ride, and better clearance, but I am concerned about unsprung weight getting to high.  Thoughts?

For the front the Apex, or Triple Razor look good but once again useful information like section width, and even the height of the Razor is withheld.  WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE MANUFACTURERS.  APPARENTLY THEY DON'T WANT TO SELL ANYTHING.  Must stay calm.........

On the front I would like a tire similar in height to the 31" rear, but not super thin.  Flotation is good.  I am concerned about the weight of the implement tires.

Tell me your experiences.........

My experience comes only from quads.  I ran 8" wheels, and large carcass paddles on the rear, and big fat razors on the front.  My banshee was soon nicknamed "the couch", and while not the fastest, it is still the choice of anyone tired/injured, or just looking for a fun smooth ride.  I am looking for the same affect on the buggy.  Fun, Smooth, Forgiving ride.

Thanks for the Input guys......    ff:

Well, I couldn't get anywhere with design without some info so I went ahead and ordered up what I thought I wanted with Yoshi's help.

Now that I have them, I couldn't be happier, They look great.  Thanks for the deal on them Yoshi!  And for helping me get just what I wanted.

The fronts look large, but they are suprisingly light, and I think they will exactly fit in with the theme of the car that I am building.

I will be drawing them up in detail, when I get going, and I will post those details for anyone that wants them.

In the meantime I have some other projects to finish before I can get started with this.   aa:

I did set them up with the desired track / wheelbase, got in the middle and dreamed.......

And before any smartass starts in, I know I installed the paddles backwards.......  Not to worry, I am just pushing it around the shop at this point, and am sure I will have them off before it's finished.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

MMmmm  Stealth buggy. Luv those.

I guess I am being either silly as hell or falling for something here.
The rims are certainly not directional..So just swap sides and face them forward??

Actually my first thought was you put the paddles on the front.

This REALLY helps to slow the buggy down with front paddles facing that way. Plus with the other tires on the rear you have less drivetrain issues due to low imposed loads caused by the limited traction. Ahhhhhhhh....  :P
