Ditto!

the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

The Christini ones are chain drive to the front. There are a total of 3 chains. It drives off the outside of the counter shaft up to a near right angle gear box. A shaft takes power to the head where a bevel gear drives 2 more, one top and one bottom. Having two is no doubt to prevent torque steer. Two small chains take the power out to ball spline shafts that run down the forks. The claim is the system is lighter and more efficient than the hydraulic setup.

I see the point in this discussion being that when discussing ideas and concepts that we should ALWAYS consider that different applications will make an idea either good or bad depending on the application. AND the desired results. ;D

2wd offroad bikes have been around for 50+ years.  I've wanted one of these since i was a little guy.

http://www.rokon.com/products/trailbrkr.htm

Not for racing, it's basically a 2 wheel tractor that can climb anything, float across water with its wheels filled with air and crawl through the woods reliably.

I can't imagine I would get as much use out of it as a faster more capable 4 wheeler but 50 years ago there wasn't that option.

This R1 is an interesting application of this old idea, whether or not it is a benefit would be up to the racers.

Slow in, fast out is usually the way to win a race, right, much better then fast in, slow out.  Putting it in a race with regular bikes would kind of be like the Speed Touring Car races they always show with the FWD Acura's and RWD BMW's going head to head (along with other makes, I think there is even a few Audi's running AWD)  One is usually better at certain tracks, but they are all good at at least one.  If the rear drive bikes are faster into the corners, and the 2WD bikes faster out, it would make for some interesting races, wouldn't it!!

As for if it would or would not work, there is always people that say it wouldn't work.  I would think that a bunch of people like us would be pushing to see it done just to prove it could be, instead of just complaining about how it SHOULDN'T work...
