Well, looking at it again it seems the shaft broke. I just had the wheel come off in my hands.

I would be too busy wetting myself.  The warm liquid would have a soothing effect.  Thereby eliminating any panic.

This last trip to LS it happened to me.  Grabbed 3rd to climb that 1st dune out of N gate shifter in one hand wheel in other.  Kinda scary feeling for a second and I was only prob 30-40 mph.
You can keep your CHANGE, I'd like to keep my DOLLAR.

For me it was more of a helpless feeling. One time I had a front axle break on the RED. Semi final round. Opponent had the handicap and left first. About 3/4 track I caught him and just as I passed him the axle let go. CAr made a small move but I gathered it up easily, slowed to let the guy pass me by in case anything else went haywire. I was tricycling on along and turned off on the return road behind the guy. He STOPS in the middle of the return road turnoff. I sit there waiting for him to go and wait and wait till I finally get out and walk up to him. He's sitting there glued to his steering wheel staring straight ahead. Hell, I think he's had a stroke or something. LOL!!! I ask him if he's OK. He asks me if that hadn't scared me. I replied no and that if it scared him so badly he shouldn't be in a fast ass RED. He SOLD the dragster that week and was back at the track in his 10 second door car that next weekend. Guess he took my advice. He was and still is a very good driver-----in a slower car.
