CV adapter and gearing

I'm planning a new project and need input. I am going to use a Polaris sportsman transmission. I want to use VW axles and cvs from a 1986 Jetta[90mm inner].I am trying to keep rotating weight down. I have long splined after market axles. Will these work with the outer fixed cv? Could an adapter be machined to adapt the VW  cv flange to the Polaris transmission[ a large splined shaft with small splined shafts on each side]? Can I overdrive the transmission 2 to 1 ? Let the discussion begin. Tim

Think offroad shifter kart. Honda CR250 motor in a short wheelbase, 50"+ width,10"+ travel, 68"to 75" wheelbase.I run in tight woods.Oh I have solution for starting. Tim

I'm sure a flat adapter could be welded to the Polaris flanges and drilled to bolt on the VW axles.  I'm assuming you mean 2 L or R axles, which ever is longer?  Polaris tranny is chain driven?  Doubt your gonna need any overdrive, in woods with a 2-stroker.  Underdrive most likely.

Trailing arm or A-arm? Trailing arms have a lot of plunge, splines alone will not provide all the plunge you need. The CV flanges would also need to be 2-3" deep and very large in diameter to clear the axle as the suspension cycles.

A-arm, your golden.

He is only shooting for 10" travel. He MIGHT be aBLE TO DO TA'S BUT i'D PREFER TO SEE A ARMS.  Sorry for the caps.

Looks like non plunging outer cv, and reg inner cv.  So maybe 3/4" plunge from inside joint.

Yes definitely a arms. I am trying to use sport atv wheels[10" to start]. 1996 Polaris sportsman transmission is about 10.5to 1 reduction. I have figured I need about 5to 1 to hit 60 mph at top rpm of motor. I have read that welding flanges sometimes doesn't hold. Trying to keep everything splined. I have after market axles that are in between length of long and short, they are shoulderless. Tim

do  you have a pic of the factory axle's on that sportsmen?
