I had come across this one awhile back, that I think was the same one used in that build, which started as a Rhino, but ended up more custom than anything, nice job too!

Here's the link:

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/MPD-Racing-Positive-Lock-Shifter-Kit-and-Replacement-Cable,5703.html

I didn't care for were the shift cable attachment was, and that it is such a short handle.
That is way I really wanted the one from Neil @ ATV Racing.

enemy runs this selector handle on his rail with the jeffco unit and has no problems with it, it locks into the position you put it.

Looking for other options for a three postion shifter ( F-N-R) with positive detents for my RPM F/N/R trans.
My RPM has the detent, but I want to have a locking detent at the shifter, then soften the tension on the RPM shift detent mechanism.

I know that Neil @ ATV Racing makes some nice ones, but I already talked with him and he's waiting on some machined parts. I want his, but if he's delayed so am I.

Just looking into other "quality" options, if I can't get Neil's in time for our dune season, which is right around the corner!!

Thanks in advance, Jeff
Since no one has pointed it out i guess I will. I'd call Dan Roberto and ask if he feels that's a good idea. I suspect he won't.

Mastefabr,
I have already talked with Dan about this, and he said that if you have LOCKING shifter, then you can remove the detent "ball / spring" and be fine, but under no circumstances should you remove or "lessing the tension" unless you have a postive locking detent shifter.

Thanks for addressing this./quote]

You running linkage or cable? If cable I'm not too sure how "positive" the locking shifter will be. I still don't think it's a good idea. Why do you want to lessen/eliminate the detent at the tranny? Think about it. All trannys have detents at the tranny even if the shifter has positive detents. Just wondering why you wish to do it.

I would agree that if the tranny has a positive detent it should be retained.  The worst case scenario is if the detent is at the shifter and the cable gets out of adjustment then the shift forks will get worn out quickly because of the thrust loads.  It the tranny really has a very solid detent, why not just run a simple handle and let the tranny detent do the work?

Well I bought the Rex Marine FNR Billet Shifter and it is a nice piece!!

Here are some pics of it. It mounts with three bolts on the back, just have to fab a plate / bracket.

Here's the link. I bought the polished billet, but they come in other colors also
