What impacts?? You must build hard suspension into your cars....

Seriously, I hit a set of tank track marks (yep leopard tank, one of our races was on an army test ground), I reckon they were maybe 12" deep and 20" across with real square edges.

Hit em flat out so hard that the shafts on 4 of the 10 bilstien shocks bent (no surprises there im sure), and my spine is not good but i got out ok.

I think my 14" suspension travel went to 16" that day... man it went bang.. navigator was belting me all the way back to the pits....
Nope.sure don't.
Around here they call that a small bump.Sorry but that's the truth. No exaggeration. At full speed you'll just skim the top. We call them LS whoops.
Not to offend but if you did all that damage crossing those tracks you got problems that no kind of seat will help.

 :) :) :) :)

BTW how the hell do you bend shock shafts anyway?

You are SOOOOOO wrong in that statement. You got it backwards.Anything that INCREASES the decel time is a HUGE benefit when it comes to impacts.

Loosen up your seat belt a little and tell me otherwise when you hit something...

I've seen it on some of the long travel rails with a really long shock, usually a double bypass since the shaft is thinner.  The longer the shock and the faster the compression for a shock that is valved kinda stiff, the more likely it is to bend.  I think that's why the trophy trucks run a shorter shock a lot farther in, with the kinda travel numbers they are getting and how fast they are cycling with so much weight, I don't think it would be hard to bend them if they were longer and mounted farther back....IMO

I suppose you can but I'd think you'd have to be valved very stiff and be at full extension when taking a severe IMPACT tho (artie).

yeah bilstein shocks (back then) had a 12mm shaft and where very high gas pressure making them intitally quite stiff. Horrible shock but all we really had available in those days.

As I said I had to use 10 of the suckers to do today what 4 fox would do easily (10 probably werent as good).

Bending them wasnt an unknown occurence.

I think Yoshi is spot on with his comments, these werent long travel by any means but the very thin shafts accentuated the issue.

hard as rocks without the padded covers, hard as rocks in a towel with the covers on. :P
