need ideas
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:56:18 PM »
I need to mount a speedo it is about 3 3/4 round. I do not want to screw into it because i do not want to hit some thing. It needs to be mount into a consule.

How to i keep it from coming out easily??

What do you do for a starter switch?

i am going to use a steel sheet for my gauge mounts and there is a few ways you can use for an ignation a key or a push button or as i am doing both

I like to use a sand sealed off-on-momentary toggle switch for my starter and ignition on. Very clean and does the job

Cut a hole that is fits snug in.   Slip it in and silicone or hot glue the back side.  That should be solid enough to stay, but you can still take it out if you need to.

I used a push button momentary as it looks different than any other switch, so, no chance of accidently hitting the starting with the motor running.  In lieu of a key, I used both a master shut off and a "hidden" thermal master breaker.

I like the tight hole and silicone idea.  Pictures of the gauage might help some folks come up with ideas?

If the guage is round...Here is a trick that is slick as hell and fool-proof...
Hole saw the opening for the guage, Tight fit...Use a hose clamp, pull the guage back until the bezel is snug, you can run a bead of silicone around the bezel to keep the guage from rotating and rattling, Tighten up the hose clamps and your done Nice looking easy and cheap

Another thing is...
Most guages have a couple of mounting bolts on the back, you could brake up a peice of flat stock, drill the holes and bolt it there...That's how Autometer guages det mounted in -dash...I can't take any pix since camera got dropped last night

That's no good.  I for one enjoy the spec pictures....

As part of a job hazard I go through cameras like nobodies business.  I had one sitting around and I could not recall why it got "retired."   Nothing fancy, a PowerShot A60 - my fav of all time...  It does show signs of use.

I put in new batteries, and at first the picture was "fuzzy"  I tapped on it, and it seems to work fine -
So, I posted a couple of the shots - including the fuzzy one for reference.... One with yesterday's date on it that is fuzzy due to close up.....  and a shot of this thread....

The reason I say all this; it is yours for the taking....  - I don't know how long it will last, but it is better than nothing....... The "fuzzy" is why it got retired would be my guess - I can never have a picture not take as would be a major PITA.  Camera must work every time all the time in my world.

Send me PM if you would like it.  Heck, I will even toss in the new battries......

BTY, (Did it again!  BTW!) did not mean to "hijack"  carry on re: mounting gauges....

That right there is why DTS is a great site.REAL comraderieand willingness to help out another unlike that other place we know of.
"There can be no divided allegiance here.  Any man who says he is an American,
but something else also, isn't an American at all.  We have room for but one
flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is
the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."
