So it's been a few years since I parted ways with the green Mantis and started rocking the Yellow HRT. One full engine overhaul an and more then a couple of 2d trans builds now with the gernading of a couple of very expensive RCV's CV's and twisting and breaking two equally pricey 300M axles it is time for me to step up to the pump and do a PBS S-4 swap.

With the new 934 CV's and axles I believe I have moved the breaking link back into the somewhat fragile 2d. So here is the compareance of the 2d and the s-4 PBS. and this is just first gear.
There is a huge difference in the two gears in these transmissions. Andy at CBM is supplying me with the newly refurbished from Rancho PBS s-4, I spent some time on the telly today confirming with John at Outfront and Sam at Rancho that my Subaru bellhousing that bolts my 3.o liter to my 2d will for sure bolt to the new PBS.

Check out reverse.

So very shorty after I get back from LS this spring the HRT will be slice and diced to expect the new PBS and finally be gently moved back straight from the damage that it incurred last fall during the Skagway walk. It seems the landing was a bit hard on the left rear quarter of the frame. Check in from time to time here in about a month for the updates. Let the fun begin.

By the way I'll have a chevy bellhousing that will fit a PBS for sale. I don't know for sure if it will fit a mindy or not. Will have to talk to Sam at Rancho on that onel

GOOD ,ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!! :) :) SO far,I'm LOVING my S5 Fortin. Shifts smooth as butter. You should love the PBS equally as well. There's no way I'd EVER use an H pattern synchronized tranny no matter the brand after experiencing a sequential.
-
pretty massive diff there fast! you will enjoy all that work but remember the alternative.......turn down the power??? rofl rofl

;D LMAO LMAO ;D rofl rofl ;D

You can never go back.
-
Looks like a well needed upgrade. I would love a sequential shift. How much larger is the tranny and how much will need to be tweaked for it to fit?

Don't have that answer as yet. I'll start the rework just after returning form our LS trip next week. Transmission should be here along with the Haggart shifter. Most likely will have to just cut the back half of the car off and start over. I need to push everything back a couple of inches anyway to straighten the axles. Looking at installing a sway bar to.

can only get better! or just turn the power down rofl rofl LMAO LMAO ;) ;) rofl rofl
-
Ya,turn the power down. My lead sled will never keep up with you.

OK back from playing in the little sand box and got the job started. Pulled all the sheet metal from the car and let the games begin.

Looking like the complete package will have to go reword about 2 inch. This tube on both sides will have to slid to the rear.

One of the main things to do is rewire the whole car. It has been a night mare keeping this car running with the wires the way they have been.

FYI anything on the car that is not tied down tight will sand it's self away. This is my air compressor that I carry just in front of the passenger seat on the floor.

Nice compressor bag! WOW! How long did that take?
-
The rewire job will be a as much work as the new tranny I bet.
-
well you found your electrical gremlins!

Quite a long time. I put the compressor bag on the car when I first got it. Luckily I found it before it started eating the wiring from the leads.

With all this happing, don't forget your fuel pump was acting up. with all the up grades. I would space of the pump.. :m

Pump not the problem. I found a ground to the ECU loose.
-
Well I new I would have to do something to help me handle the PBS and 2D install and fab. No telling how many times I'll have to pull this pig in and out. So now it's done and I can start the tube cutting and bending.
-
nice idea. that makes life simple. looks like your moving right along.
-
yea, neat idea. Is that a farm jack with all-thread adjustment? I usually stack enough 2x4's and misc wood on the floor jack, to make it really un-safe.
-
Anything that makes life easier is a good thing!!

That is the main part of a MoJack the company that builds them is here in Wichita and they sell there rejects to the Yard Store. I found this one stuck in a corner the last time I was up there. It has a drop safety on it to. $40$ was score for me.
-
great little addition to the tool box
-
so did you get that cradle rebuilt for the new trans yet? get that bellhousing machined out yet? have you got anything done yet rofl just kidding. i'm sure your getting prepped for your around the nation trip.
-
Got a couple of things worked out but not lot. been trying to get the water shad cleaned out in back of the house shop.Got a new toy to play with.
-
bought a power shovel huh lol so going to make some jumps to test the new mods out??
-
I bet having that power shovel is like a nail gun. Just one fence post to dig better get the power shovel. I havent hand driven a nail in yrs! rofl
-
Already dug a big hole in the back ten Drowning used the dirt for a burm for shooting. 4: :7
-
well you found a useful use for it lol
-
But I have been working on the buggy to :m
Got the old frame rails out and the new one's bent and tacked in.
I bent the new lower main frame rails down and back 1.750 and that allowed me to get the new S4 about 3.5 inches lower in the frame. I can now remove the 3.0 stops I had in the emulation shocks and the intern netted me a full droop of 28.5 degrees with the 934 CV'S. Full travel now is 22.0 inches. Going to order new emulation shocks from Mark that are valved 75/90 to keep the tail end of my car from leaving divots in the sand. I need to get my Bypass shocks torn down and find out what they need in the way of shims to stiffen them up too. Going to change spring in back and up the 500 LB's to 600 LBS.
-
you've made good progress! how is jerry's coming along? need to get them both done before you leave on your windmill trip!
-
Windmill trip mite be out this year. Got a knee giving me fits and need it looked into. This walking with a cane sucks.
-
ya know i would tend to agree with you on the cane but on the bright side its better than a walker!
