Motor and Drivetrain / Re: 2 Piece Torque Converters

Bad news and good news or hopefully will be good news. The guys family must not have learned any of the business to dump itnlike that. Or maybe they that was harder then they wanted to work. I hope doug fortin sets something up and I like the idea of a tq converter myself.

If the tq converter was all done, can you put a clutch in the trans? I would assume so but not sure if that requires a new bell housing or what not.  A lot 9f companies have gone under since covid and there are a lot of specialty companies locally where people retired and no one wanted to keep the business going.

This has gone from bad to worse.  I have found that TCS closed up due to owner dying unexpectedly of cancer . His family operated it just long enough to pay off some debt and closed it down leaving anyone with a Fortin transaxle running a converter  up shit creek.  Fortin wanted to buy the remaining inventory of components for their exclusive converter but that fell through.   A lot of inventory apparently just disappeared.  The converter can still be serviced by a couple shops but the starter ring gear is a custom unit made by Meziere. There is absolutely no one else making them.   I can damn sure suggest a couple improvements!   Coan has only 2 of them.  There is another possible shop that may have some . I sent the converter to Coan this morning and they said they should likely be able to send it back end of week.   I'm going to try to buy the extra ring gear from them so I will have on hand a spare just in case.   I think I got the scoop from Fortin what is going to be done to keep these converters available and serviced.  Apparently some big guns as well as Doug Fortin himself are pushing hard as they are screwed as well.   I thought the converter driven stuff was about done for but apparently there are a lot still being used.   Long story short , I should be back together with about a week to spare before LS. If all goes as planned. beathorse.gif~c200

Got another round of shots in my eye tues. Out for a few days but I'm very hopeful ill get back to it sat. My eye didn't bruise with the last shot but it has half way of what it looked like back in Oct. It is what it is I suppose. Looks like I GET TO pay the doc to stab me in the eye ,twice, every 9 weeks for the rest of this year. Since that is how it has gone thus far he decided it was just best to schedule as such.

I have a lot to get done on the rail but honestly, at this point,  what I wanted to take my time sorting out isn't going to happen. This rail needs to make the trip so ill do what I can. My goal for this weekend ( if my eye allows ) is to have the shocks mounted, frame work done, new rci tank mounted, shifter cables mounted so I can order new cables, and if possible, radiator and intercooler. Need to drop the motor back in to weld in new mounts but thats only 4 tabs.

This one is willing to let one of you guys sign for it since it will be late when we arrive. He pre fers cash too , like the other guy. Cash is king imo so more then happy to help since it helps me as well.

Trial and error definitely works! You won't even feel 1/2" of bump on pavement.

I am surprised his personal rail had that much bump.

I hope carl has that spindle. Would be a good idea to have some parts made and make a jig fixture from it....just in case. I hope you never need one but just in case.

At one point, did you mention that this was Phil's personal rail? Or one of them anyway.

That was a lot of bump and you did a great job fixing the problem.

Thanks, it was a lot of trial and error.
Yes, this was his personal car he built then sold.  During that time of his build/ownership it has combo spindles with the tie rod mounting point almost all the way towards the top of the spindle, also not double sheer.  I found out that Carl has one of the spindles still.  Hopefully able to pick it up from Carl someday.

how much bump steer now?

Went from 3.5" to 1/2" or less now.   A before and after video showing the difference.

Made a template out of cardboard,  took it to the the local FabWorx shop just 2 blocks away from me cut a test piece out.  A quick cycle of the suspension without shocks shows the bumpsteer much improved.  The lower arm is exactly the same angle as the tie rod now.  The test piece has moved the rod end mount down 1 3/8" and inward 1/2".  The final piece will be dual brackets for double sheer.
