beware of drive shaft super store
« on: January 02, 2009, 12:08:36 PM »
NEVER BUY PRODUCT FROM DRIVE SHAFT SUPER STORE!!!  I know there are several posts on a few different sites about this company but I have some new pics of there products to show everyone. I know that not everyone pre-fers u-j's but I do, except from this company who is selling crap and lying threw there teeth.

Back about feb 08 I purchased two pair of drive shafts ( 1310 series ) from DRIVE SHAFT SUPER STORE. I installed one pair on a mini with a stock busa, running a jeffco rev box at 5-1 gear reduction on 29x10-15 offroad tires. the other pair of shafts were installed on my rail running a 3.8 v-6 with 33x12.5-15 offroad tires.

Normally I have a local shop build my shafts for my rails but they were in the middle of moving to a new building and I needed a couple of pair right away so I decided to try this DRIVE SHAFT SUPER STORE out. worst mistake I could have ever made.

My local shop builds everything out of rockford components and I have even used 1310 series on a v-6 rail that belongs to good friend of mine. he is running a built 3.8 v-6 with 1650 eliminators (un cut paddles) that's 33" tall 16.5" wide with every paddle. he has broke one joint in 1 1/2 years. I do believe the v-6's do need to go 1350 atleast but more likely 1410 series. I wouldn't suggest uj's to anyone with trailing arms because of huge amount of plunge needed but that is my personal opinion only!

the shafts from drive shafts super store lasted 4 hrs on the mini with the stock busa on the dirt. OSCAR claimed he machined them out to 35 degrees ( thank god he didn't !!! ) I have now seen what he calls machined out on another pair of axles a local guy purchased before I knew what kind of store this was. the so called machine work on his axles looks like some one used a bench grinder with a worn out stone wheel!!! I limited the axles at 28 degrees and they were only good to 30 degrees. the slip yoke blew the snap rings out as well as all the metal that retains the snap ring and snapped the u-joint in three pieces. at first I figured it was just a bad u-joint based on the way the fractures in the steel looked. it happened again with in 4 hrs so I called and talked to I believe MIKE. he said they have never heard of anything like this. after a very long conversation Mike agreed to send me another slip yoke.

long story short broke 4 more of there slip yokes, each lasting about 4 hrs. broke in the same spot every time, didn't matter if the slip yoke was mounted at the wheel side or center side. when they broke they did some damage.

I called them back and mike was no longer working for them but his replacment RICK was going to help me by sending me on to OSCAR. talking to OSCSR is alot like pissing in the wind. after I expained to OSCAR that his slip yokes were the biggest problem and that lock up distance is spreading open .020" thus alowing the uj to jack hammer the ends of the yoke open, he expained to me that I was running to much angle lol lol. 28 degrees is not to much angle, 8 years previous experiance running drive shafts at 30 degrees proves that. OSCAR wouldn't do anyting about it but I did get it out of him finally that he was purchasing CAST yokes from china!! you cannot run cast yokes at all. I have seen 5 other posts from buggy to off road trucks posting product failures from DRIVE SHAFT SUPER STORE.

This all took place back in june I believe, so when they tell people they have had no failures they are lying through their teeth. the last shaft that broke on me, broke on the left hand side and shot out the right hand side of the rail about 15'. thank god no one was out riding along side me for they would have been hurt possible even killed. I do believe that there DRIVE SHAFT SUPER STORE dirve shafts will some day seriously injure and probably kill some one if they keep it up.

here are a few links to other people that have had problems and been told there has never been a problem with this companies procuct.

the pics of the yokes themselves are to show what you get when they say that they have machined the yokes out to 35 degrees, pretty bad. the pic of the nail sticking in the yoke is where they ground into it so far there is actually a hole in it now. the pic of the u-joint is of the end result when the yoke spreads open and the joint starts to slam back and forth until blows the end out of the yoke and detonates. the complete shafts pictured are local guys that purchased them before I had all the problems with the ones I bought. not only are his crap but they aren't even the right length and they won't pay to ship them back to make it right!

Sorry to hear your troubles...you'd think spending big money would make someone want to make it right for you! I heard they were stand up people, guess my ears weren't seeing what they are now.

So what's the problem? ::) Some people just sell shit and get away with it. Of course there's a sucker born every minute, huh, brian? Sorry ,just couldn't resist that one.

ha ha ha, yes there is a sucker born every minute and this is one of those companies that intends to screw everyone once before they get caught or go under.  you know the pain!!!!

I called and talked to this OSCAR guy one more time until I believe he hung up on me.  :m   he actually told me that he would be willing to make things right if I shipped all the axles back. then he said for $150 each he would convert them out to 1350's. I then asked him why I would have to pay to have his shit product repaired and a few other polite questions about himself and his product, at this point he hung up or his cell dropped a call. ;D

I then talked to RICK and he said if I shipped all the broken slip yokes back that he would replace them with what ever brand I wanted. they still won't pay to ship them back or refund any money. he did apologize for all the problems going back to the first of the year in '08 and I told him this problem has gone way beyond that so he said let me apologize for all the bull$hit you've put up with.

this still doesn't fix the problem. the 2 pair of axles have been replaced with 1310's and 1350's made of rockford components just like all the others in the past with out a single issue the rest of the year. I have ran 1310 series on bike powered to v-6 rails with out issues for years and with drive shaft super stores junk I couldn't get 4 hrs out of them. I did read from another post that they are recommending the 1350 series for a 600cc mini. they also call the 1350's 1 ton, they are actually 3/4 ton.

this is why I posted this info on few sites, in hopes that I could save a few others all the nightmares especially those that really can't afford it.

those axles were just taken out of the box for the second time but never run and can't be in that kind of shape. if you look at the pics you can see their so called machine work starts out kind of smooth and then looks like a hatchet.

here are 2 more pics that you can see how their yoke starts to spread open then the joint starts slamming back and forth actually crushing the joint cap that holds the needle bearings. it is at this point that the joint snaps it's ears off on the slip yoke side. it only took 3 shafts about 6hrs to pop before we caught the last 2 before they let go cost even more money. drive shaft super store claims this has never happened before even when used on a v-6 rail, what a load of $hit. cast Chinese yokes, I believe OSCAR is  b:1
