Engine Opinion for a Baracuda
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:36:39 AM »
Just curious if anyone has an opinion on the 1000cc engines out there with a view to how well they might fit & run inside a baracuda. For those of us who might not get there hands on a busa..

Thanks

The standard engine compartment built to plans will house any engine in the 1000 cc range but some prefer o extend t for the V-twins. I didn't as it doesfit fine. The extra length makes it easier to install and pull the motor. IMO the shorter wheel base benefits out weigh the extra length for ease of the engine installation.  Go with a GSXR 1000, RC51, TL1000, VFR 1000, ZX10R, or even a ZX9R. Try and find that Busa first though!  :o

In the package and application of the Cuda. A turbo Busa is best IMO.

thanks guys...A Busa is probably one of the harder engines to find locally.  Will see what I can come up with. Appreciate the comments Doug....as a guy was trying to sell me an R1 today.

IMO you are far better off getting a four cylinder parallel motor or even a parallel twin but yeah I would go that route the V twins while sounding nice are a pain to get in unless you have a well equipt shop!! ;D
VTR 1000 CUDA on the way.. What goes around comes around!!

Mounting a V-Twin isn't too bad, you might just have to modify your fire wall directly behind the seat to allow for the front cylinder.  Just ask Doug to send you some pics of the green Cuda he just sold.  He's a big help, hell he even came over to my shop and personally showed me what needed to be modified.  Then he let me crawl all over his green monster Cuda and take all kinds of pics. ;)  What a guy, that Doug Heim fella.  ;D
See you all duneside.😎🤙

I am putting a TL1000R into my cuda and have mounted it transversely, moves the weight of the motor towards the center and it gives me plenty of room for the exhaust out either side. I am making a 90 deg FNR box witch fits in easily without modifying the frame and the sprockets line up perfectly. When i have finished it I will post pics, hoping for the end of March.
