« on: May 21, 2009, 08:38:06 PM »
I got a new brake rotor made from mild, It was recommended to me to have it bead blasted to remove any scale, Any suggestions on a coating, Leave it raw etc etc? I was thinking to paint the center non used area with some high temp grill paint... Input guys?

Here is the final design, I drew it up in cad and Rick S added the round holes, not the mount holes, and refined some edges etc, so hopefully he double checked my work well, Or i may have a cheap rotor for sale... :)

They sell some ceramic paint in parts stores for calipers.  That might hold up better than grill paint.

Leave wear area bare.

I zinc them. Actually zinc di chromate? is that the spelling. Anyway it is the yellow zinc like on gr 8 bolts. I have used engine paint but like master said. DO NOT paint the pad area. I actually did that on my first piranha. first time I hit the rear brakes I soiled myself from the noise and thought I lost somthing major!

I agree with Douggie here, or cad plate them. The plating quickly wears off the operating surface.

I painted mine and used emery cloth to clean up the overspray on my pad surfaces.
Its better to be a smartass than a dumbass!
