Trailers, Toyhaulers and Motorhomes / Trailer hitch
« Last post by DeepBusch69 on September 24, 2023, 11:46:39 AM »
Just a reminder to check your trailer hitch for cracks or missing bolts once in a while.  I was at the gas station (and that takes a while) so I crawled underneath to look at the hitch.  Two 1/2" bolts were broken off or missing.  Easy fix NOW, not so good on the road when the whole hitch lets loose.

Really liked the overnighter but that frame wasn't near strong enough for the long hauler. The custom dune sport had issues for sure but to date I repaired them. There will be more as all the new toybaulers are just absolute crap! Really sorry I sold that Wolfpack 295. That was 10 years old but still better built at 10 years of age compared to the new.

That's too bad OR too good depending on how it's looked at. You've had some really bad luck with haulers.

their deck over heavier duty trailer

17,000 GVWR – Two 7,000 lb. axles with a W10″ I-beam mainframe at 12PPF available in 24′, 26′, and 28′ lengths. The frame upgrades to 12″ I Beam at 16PPF for 30′, 32′, 36′, and 40′ lengths. A Torque Tube is included for 32′ and longer lengths. Cross members are on 18″ centers with a 6″ outer rail. An 8,000 lb. axle/17.5” tire upgrade is a popular option upgrade. The 8,000lb. axle upgrade is required for 40′ length on this model.

24,000 GVWR – Two 10,000 lb. axles with a W12″ I-beam mainframe at 16PPF in 24′, 28′, and 30′ lengths. The frame upgrades to W12″ I Beam at 19PPF for 32′, 36′, and 40′ lengths. A Torque Tube is included for 32′ and longer lengths. Cross members are on 18″ centers with a 6″ outer rail.

so you asked a question i forgot to ask...... what is the pin weight %. i just got off the phone with the saleman, he said they are designed 60/40 from center of axles, no specific % target. basically i will have to go to a cat scale to find out.   :m  also, you  had me wondering about the price diff with other brands. so kaufman is factory direct so some savings. i looked at a few other brands online. lots of trailers built in texas as in texas pride , best texas trailer, big tex  :m looked at pj's and a couple others. those that offer low boy full width deck light duty equipment traielrs aka goose neck car trailers  :m seem to be all channel frames or as i call it C channel. some are rectangle tube frames but most are stacked channel. the heavier duty real equipment trailers are all deck overs, I beam frames but tq tubes aren't offered until they get to that 30/32 ' plus length configurations.  i will say i like the way diamond C builds there trailers, not fond of the extra $5k they want vs kaufman but i really do like their construction. pj trailers seem to do a nice job, only have seen on texas pride trailer in person , that one looked good as well. they are $2500 higher and much farther away. it appears that the tq tube isn't widely used with c channel lighter duty GN trailer, only when they go I beam.

light duty " equipment trailer gn "  the 6" channel doubler is another piece of  channel slightly small and set inside the larger then welded to create a box.......Kaufman Trailer’s Deluxe 15000 GVWR Equipment Gooseneck Trailer is built with 6 in. channel main frame with 6 in. channel doubler from axles forward, and 8 in. channel uprights and neck. The 3 in. channel cross members are on 16 in. centers for more support under the floor. A treated wood floor is standard. An adjustable coupler, heavy duty 12,000 lb. drop foot jack, heavy duty diamond plate fenders, and  tool box with a lockable lid are included. We add a rub rail on the stake pockets. The running gear is two 7,000 lb. axles with heavy duty slipper spring suspension and radial tires. The dovetail and swing up loading ramps make loading your equipment safe and easy. This model has beefed up ramps built with 4 in. channel ramp frame runners. The floor is even with the top of the frame for simple side loading of palletized materials. Sealed beam rubber mount LED lights round out this great value package.

Is it built with a 10"-12" torque tube running down the middle of the trailer?

It does not. This is the light duty gn series. I knew it wouldn't and I do know the benefits but everything i read or saw online were longer I beam frames that used the tq tubes.. The heavy duty version has the option on the shorter ones and the longer comes with them. This one is only a 15k gvwr and is built stout enough I would hesitate to pull my truck on it. That would be the limit imo maybe a pallet of retaining wall blocks but the main purpose is 2 ÷2k lb rails. Yes, it was the price difference that made the choice. The heavier duty version have I beam frames where this one has a double channel frame.

The goal it to travel with paddles on but may have to back scotts on with dirt tires to fit between the fenders. It should fit pulled on but won't know until I try.

lemar trailers write up.... https://www.lamartrailers.com/post/channel-vs-i-beam-frame which is very similar to other write ups

You made a wise choice in length. You will be able to position the cars so it pulls with a minimal amount of bucking. Get the weight distribution right and you wll not even notice it behind you. Get it wrong and wellllllll, you will know it. I visually estimate that there is 85-90 percent over the axles with 10-15 percent forward of axles.  If it bucks adjust the weight fore/aft till it is smooth as glass.

Def know the need for the ride balance! Scotts rail will help to be in the rear but mine weighs as much as his. Im hoping with mine pulled on the majority of the weight will be over the axle. Moving tail to head, 48" from the fender edge to end of flat floor, then the dove tail begins. Drive over fenders is a 9" rise at 22" long run up. Nice shallow angle for a drive over.
