Buggy chassis

How come most buggy chassis are Independent suspension? Has anyone built a buggy using a solid rear end like this truck? Pros, cons....

I would think that this might not turn as well and not transition as easy on the ridges?  Aren't they really designed to go fast pretty much straight and soak up the bumps?

Would have to be a front engine is my complaint. The setup does very well in the dunes if you watch Robby Gordon in Glamis vids!

That is BJ Baldwins Stout TT. Lots of people have built Truggy's. The Herbst dominated class 1 for years with there's. It is getting a make over and will be run in the "vintage class" at next years NORRA 1000.
 
RG has not had a front engine truck since 94 when he sold the Rivera truck to Post. The last 3 have all been rear engine V-drive.

Excluding pure racers, and just looking at play cars, Colorado Sand Trucks builds em.

I would say the biggest advantage is the transmission.  Not hard or $$$ to build a tranny for 400-500 hp.  Now a transaxle for that, $$,$$$.  Plus its a truck not a car.  ;D

Thought about going that route. Cheaper componets, depending on how far you go with it. Rear dif, trans cheap compared to a transaxle. But a lot more unspung weight.

Trying to figure out what I need to buy for tubing to build a chassis. The plans are in metric. How do figure out in standard what I need? like 25Nbx2.3 pipe. Is there an easier way to convert this?
