Gauges

When choosing dash gauges. How do you know what gauges to use? Mechanical or electrical gauges? Is one more accurate than the other?

electric are easier and plenty accurate/reliable. Liquid filled are best if vibration is a concern but ,of course, more expensive.

If by electric, you mean digital, I prefer them now only when they include programmable warning lights like: http://www.aftershockmotorsports.com/Honda-FL350R-Odyssey/Electrical-Gauges/Digitron-Memory-EGT-CHT-Tach

I used to prefer analog because of response time. A digital gauge intentionally does not refresh the display fast. That is because it would flicker. On an EGT, I can see the needle is rising much faster than watching several screen refreshes of a digital gauge. Reality got the better of me though. I am likely not looking at the gauge at the time of a problem. So I switched to digital and program the yellow and red lights to appropriate values.

Need water temp, oil pressure, and air/fuel gauges. Looking for some marine white face gauges.

I personally hate digital gauges. Analog needles ,for me, are much easier to glance at and see where the needle is compared to having to focus on a relatively small numerical display. The stepper motor gauges are very accurate.
You should NEVER route a mechanical fuel or oil gauge into the drivers compartment either.A broken line is a recipe for a hospital visit.

I used to feel the same. It is just that I don't actually look at the gauges very often. I guess warning lights with analog gauges would be the best of both worlds, but even more money.

I agree 100% with that! On this car the gauges will be in the console area ,only to be looked at if a light goes on in the dash that will be in a fairly small array directly in but slightly below my line of sight. Can't miss one come on and the gauge can be checked then. Honestly I had thought of going all idiot lights but have decided I wouldn't like not having a gauge to reference once warned by light.

Same with me on the analog full sweep, much easier to know that all is in a safe range at a glance IMO. I have a hell of a time glancing at a digital and figure out what the hell it reads (stupid brain!)

I've bought gauges from this company in the past. Very good quality.

I see they offer programmable warning lights now! You can customize the shit out of them too.

used these same ones on my last v-6 rail and they worked great, even checked theim with a scanner to verify accuracy as best i could and pretty damn accurate!

Water temp is good, oil pressure would just scare you, no idea why you would want a air gauge.

No you need to have it tuned properly, then don't screw with it.
