They do have a couple very high priced items.

For the right person/market there's something there for a lot of levels of light duty offroad. Some really nice,in a way, buggies for kids to get started with at the very least without breaking the bank.

Beware the Chinese sheet.  We had a couple of those.  I considered it a good weekend if I only had to "fix" them a couple of times during the weekend.  I was really glad to see them go down the street with their new owners.

Carter's has a decent rep, and PARTS are stocked by some local M/C dealers.  If you cant get a $5 part  buggy is useless.

I agree the price is VERY appealing.  The problem is that they are very poor quality and there is NO, none, zippo! factory support.  You basically have no where to buy parts other than looking on Ebay for something that appears to visually look like the same part and hope that when it shows up that it fits.

I could give you many examples but one of the better examples is the Carburetor that came on the two we had.  They never would idle right so after trying everything I could think of (and I've played with a few carburetors in my time) I ended up buying two new fresh Carbs from a parts supplier back east.  Now to look at these two carbs they were identical to the ones I took off.   I put the new carb on did nothing to it and it idled perfect right out of the box.  We never had cold starting or idle problems ever again.  The only thing I can attribute it to is tolerances from the factory because visually they were exactly the same.  How hard could it be to machine a one barrel carburetor that has about 5 moving parts in it right everytime?

The point is still the same. They are all imports. Sooooo, you guys are willing to pay 15K  compared to 2-3K for a kids buggy huh? Laughh all you want but that IS the diff between quality and chinese.

Actually the buggy pictured was $850 at the time (they've gone up a little since).  Working on it didn't really bug me that much but the kid sitting in the desert with nothing to ride because the buggy took a shit once again really sucked.

I agree there is a huge difference in price.  I was very happy when the kids out grew them :)

How about one of Protodie 6.5.  Although never did see a price, it would be a good buggy.

I used to sell the 460 with a 5 to 8 hp. Briggs, with a torque o' verter in the 2 grand range 8" of travel was plenty for the kids...But that was back in the late 90's
I don't think I could even buy the parts for that now

Did not see the other thread and I'm sure this comment will let the dogs loose, but it is what it is.  I bought a Hmmerhead Twister 250 for the kids and we have run the crap out of that thing with 0 problems.  I probably have driven it more than the kids and even had it on 2 wheels, side wheels, got it back down and no problems.  Sure some regular maintenance helps and I know mine is the 1 in 1000, but I really only have 1 complaint about it.  The air filter is located near the rear tire and it gets dirty real fast.  Been meaning to change it, but don't want to spend the time on it when I have a real buggy to build.  Probably lots better, but for what I paid 2nd hand it has been a blast.  We live in a small community and my wife and I cruise it all over and take it to parties.  Gets some funny looks.  Been wanting to upgrade the lights too.

Ok guys go ahead and let er rip!
You smell that?
