Intrepid Bearing Carrier Reliability?
«

Hello All,
A friend of mine is having some problems with repeated bearing failures in his Barracuda rear wheel hubs. I currently working on a bolt-in replacment that utilises Intrepid bearing carriers and EMPI microstubs.
I was just wondering if anyone could comment on the bearing reliability in one of the Intrepid hub units? His car would be about 650kgs and powered by a Gen 2 Busa.
Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Ya,I don't remember for sure either but it seems like the imports were giving issues.

Some of the bearings require a CV bolted in before they are actually held together. The EMPI stubs also may not fully seat into the splines on some brands. If both are true, the bearing is basically not held together and will fail immediately. I made up a batch of spacers to deal with that. It has been a while and all this is off the top of my head. I still have more spacers though.

I used Livewires spacer, 3/8", with timken Intrepid hub and Empi f150 cv/stub. Also watch the torque, if you put it together with impact that can cause bearing failure too.
