stainless mig welding
« on: November 09, 2008, 10:23:30 PM »
Can I mig weld 316 stainless with "blueshield 23" shielding gas. It is:
82% - 96% argon
1% - 5% O2
3% - 7% CO2
I have done it before with strait argon, But I'm out of argon and it is just a small job and is not worth buying a full bottle for.

the rear frames on the semi trailers we make are all 1/4 inch stainless and they mig weld them. they just use 75% argon and 25% c02 just regular mig gas.

75/25 is for welding steel. I'm not a profesional weldor but that is the gas that  I use for welding.

Are you using meta-core wire with that? C-25 I'v grabbed the wrong tank in the past and C-25 makes a mess on stainless...unless your using meta-core wire and a ferrous stainless ???

acutally when i think about it, i think its 100% argon. because the bumber welder in front of me has two machines. one has a spool of mig wire, and a spool of stainless (with two tanks) the other has stainless and aluminum.  sorry for my confusion.
