You'll want to use 2% thoriated on steel, stainless, and thicker alum, this will keep your tungsten from dancing around. I learned a nice little trick from our Miller tech (23 years as a welding engineer) If you have some really thick alum (3/4") you can go to DC and use an Argon/Helium mix. It punches hard, but it's a little tricky getting used to the arc, as it will want to dance around a bit. Or you can pre heat the crap out of it with a torch.
Don't you mean it'll keep your arc from dancing around...
I'm sure he said it right. Pure tungsten dances when run at higher amps. The ball at the end goes all wibbly wobbly like jello and sometimes even falls off. I've switched to red for that reason.
