am i under educated?
« on: December 26, 2008, 10:26:09 PM »
so i spent 70$ today on a pair of gabriel hi-jacker air shocks. after reading the thread on mbn where this guy used them and said they worked great..  so i spent all night fabbing brackets and welding.. i get the shocks on and air them up to 90lbs... its like having solid suspension, so i jump hard on it and it compresses but the rebound is counted in seconds... ugh..   drop it to 50lbs, and it just compresses faster but rebounds slow as hell..  is this supposed to work like that?  or what?

He may have omitted that detail from his report eh?  That is how most any automotive shock reacts.  But on the road they seem to work.  They are also carrying much more weight than you are.  Got any sand bags to represent yours and passenger weight?  Then you could air them up more and see if they rebound quicker at the higher pressure.

Wait, you have those adjustable mounts.  Can you move the shock to the position where it has the least amount of leverage?  That will require more pressure and therefore faster rebound.

Or you could just up the ante, and tell bug you need some shocks in that box with the heims. ;D

It's unlikely the air shocks will work at all. Fox air shocks should be called Fox Air Springs. They are not the same thing as air shocks.

install them in your truck, drive down bumpy roads for about 6 months, then re-install in buggy.  Will work much better then. ;D

How? They are valved for a much stiffer spring and a much heavier car/truck. I don't think they worked at all.No way.

Are they for a car, truck, buggy, ATV? If they are for an atv let me know. Also never put compressed air in any shock. Atv or otherwise. :P

He upped the air volume by adding resi's.  Toe will affect things also.  But the valving is going to be off no matter what.  Maybe he is just a ruff ryder and you're a cadilac guy?  Automotive shocks do improve with speed, but aren't the best solution.  I tried my share and gave up.
