The torches look the same but there's a water hose that the water and power cable run through.Separate hose for gas. The power cable is also water cooled.

Basically it cools the handle so you can hold onto it.

NO,it cools the popwer cable and the torch to keep them from melting down.Your hand just gets a better life due to it.The cooled power cable is able to carry a much higher amp load and weld heavier sections. The water cooled torch is especially needed when welding in AC(aluminum) due to the extra heat in it due to part of the ac cycle inputting heat into the torch directly.

I know, but the biggest difference you will notice is being able to hang onto the torch. I need a water cooler bad, because the whole machine starts overheating if I try to do 1/4" or better. But most of my TIG is 1/8" mild and chromoly..

I need a gas lens first though. Priorities. I'm always broke.

You don't need a water cooler. All you need is a couple of cheap garden hoses and a couple of readily available adapters. One hose to the machine to feed it water and another to drain water to a drain. It takes very little water. I've TIGged for a lot of years and never had a self contained cooler.

I make my own also. These were stainless. The blanks were punched out on a Strippit machine.

That looks sweet Rick. I may be tugging on your ear soon to see if you could make me a sick tank. I am guessing you bend the pieces to fit together like a puzzle. Either way that is very clean. I also like the straps you used to hold it in place.

I 'm just curious and am wondering why you used straps like that to secure the tank.

If you have to park outside at the campground, you can take the tank off and hide it so they wont steel your gas... jj: I think the straps give it that unique look as well, i to like it...
