WOW! The frontal looked like no sweat but that top crash was VIOLENT and I'm betting serious problems for the dummy.

The way the chassis is bolted to the sled in the cage video I think is a bit misleading.

I'll have to look at it a few more times.

The way the chassis is bolted to the sled in the cage video I think is a bit misleading.

If the frame was not fixed to sled there would not have been enough force to have crushed the frame as much.  The sled is still traveling at speed after impact acting like a press.  That's what it looks like to me anyways.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

I'd have to agree. It showed a lot of what would happen but it seems to me to be a bit inaccurate also. The frontal was better in that the catapult released before impact.

The amount the dummy came out of the seat was pretty large also. Not sure how good there belt set-up was.

No Hans for the dummy?

Think it was more a case of the cage coming down versus the dummy coming out of the seat. Don't really think the cage test was all that accurate.
The FIA cage test we did 25 years ago was basically swinging a big ass steel ball at it.

That was the FIA test at the time, we had to send the tub out to be tested and certified, have no idea what the test consists of today.
When I was at Nissan 20 years ago the last car built had a complete carbon fiber roll cage, I saw the video of that cage being tested, it was just straight tonnage being applied. Would assume they were tested from different angles.
In 2008 I spent the whole year doing uprights for Swift Engineerings latest Nippon Series Race Car. They also had to be FIA approved, even the steering shaft had to be able to collapse under a certain amount of pressure so they also had to be sent for testing and be approved.

Seems the test would be more accurate by using a sling shot to propel the cage down a busy hwy.  The front crash looks like something you'd see happen at the track.  Not sure how the other crash might happen.
