Hello All I just found this drive clutch on ebay and wonder if it will work for the time being on my Ecotec project, I will have the power down around 160ish for now and I am just trying to get it going for next season, what do you gurus think? Really it will only be for a season or two if it works, then I will be turboing the car and getting serious once the bugs are worked out and I will upgrade to a billet unit then... Here it is..

OK, I can't address the clutch issue directly. So I won't.
This is a life issue. I still do the "will work for time being" and everytime I do I am disappointed. I end up spending more money and time than just doing it the way I know / wanted it to be done in the first place. Through trial and error, I have learned that planning ahead is a fine thing, in this case - making tabs for lights for example. Sacrificing What you know will work and what you will eventually end up with for lesser quality "for the time being" is just a lesson in frustration.
My advice - get the right clutch the first time - if it postpones the project a month - so be it - you will be happier with the final outcome and it will ultimately cost less.

I agree, but in this case its not a month, its two seasons! I really need something for the power level I will have for a while, and then move up when I can afford it... These sleds seem to easily achieve more than 200 HP so I don't see why this clutch won't work as its meant for "High Powered Sleds" on their site, and they weigh nearly what my buggy will weigh, but I need advise from someone who knows for sure so I don't throw the money away...

I can't really say yay or ney...
that is a good clutch for sled power, But your kinda our guinea pig on the ecotec and CVT ;)
My problem is that the Ecotec makes bigger torque numbers than the 2 strokes do and torque is what breaks shit and gets you moving...What are the other ecotec guys running?

My 600 doo engine broke the spider in the 108, i removed it from the car and havent never even fixed it...

Sounds like a good time to call the mfr and ask them if it will take the torque.

If they'll be honest tho is another issue to deal with.

Imo personal experience and what i have read on the forums, the spider is the weak link, IMO the 108 is a waiste of money for what were doing...

If it broke in the drak, I seriousely doubt that it will hold up with the Ecotech, and a heavier car overall. Aren't you running bigger than ATV tires as well Whiplash? More weight + bigger tires = more stress on the drivetrain.

If it was me, id run a stock TRA 3, with the 10:1 taper, But im a Doo fan as well.. ;D

Wanna sell it for 83? LOL! Seriously though, you think its strong enough to handle the torque and can it be calibrated to the lower RPM of a max of like 6600?

Research how they work, I would expect for a oem clutch on the budget side, the tra would be the strongest as they have no spider gear etc... but you have to get a 10:1 taper... I wouldnt be to concerned about it not handling the power, it is not like a chain drive at all...

What is that?? Pretty dam cool if you ask me! How much power can it take?

Its from a volvo 340/ 360 automatic, not sure how much power it will take i think it has a 1600cc engine maybe 90 hp but a lot more weight than a buggy.`

to many shafts and moving parts, why anyone wants a cvt, but yet retain any sort of chain at all is beyond me...
