Is it built with a 10"-12" torque tube running down the middle of the trailer?

You made a wise choice in length. You will be able to position the cars so it pulls with a minimal amount of bucking. Get the weight distribution right and you wll not even notice it behind you. Get it wrong and wellllllll, you will know it. I visually estimate that there is 85-90 percent over the axles with 10-15 percent forward of axles.  If it bucks adjust the weight fore/aft till it is smooth as glass.

Had to pull the topper obviously but I do like having topper on so I made a quick 1 person stand.

Picked up the new 28' kaufman gooseneck trailer yesterday. Its to haul both rails down on. 26' of flat floor with a 2' dove tail. Factory direct as kaufman has a plant in beaver city nebr. Few little things I could pick apart but over all I am very pleased with it. I can say that it pulled awesome at 80 and 85 mph for the 4 hr drive home. Tracked true and didn't bounce the truck running empty. Weighed in just under 5k lbs. Full width deck, drive over fenders, 14 ply tires, 15k gvwr (not the heavy duty model) , winch and batt mount with sealed wire harness and sealed light....... $10,300 out the door.

so i had planned on staying until sat morning even though the rail was down and everyone else had left. figure i could go for a ride with brian N or allan or marc. wind was supposed to change and come out of the south on sat but damn sure hasn't up here! the drive home was horribly windy. trailer towed a lot better then the first trip with the rail backed in. i purchased a weigh safe hitch to weigh tongue weight and pulled in i only had 700 lbs tongue weight with a 10300 lb toyhauler. that explains the first trip. so fabr, after this trip, you might just win the 2 year bet.

friday afternoon, sitting on the patio enduring the cold wind and rain, while chatting with allan and vic, my wife comes out and says there is a leak in her ward. it was running down the roof of the ward/closet and dripping through a piece of trim. not sure where the leak is as it took a couple days of rain to find a way in.  stuck a towel in there and was going to live with it for the day. then she came back out and told me there was a 24" dia wet spot on our bed and that the roof ac was now leaking. sure as hell it was dripping our of the fresh air return vent! of all places! that was it, cold , raining, cranky grandson cause he was stuck inside, rail was down and now 2 roof leaks and a wet bed! that was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. spent yesterday on the roof of the camper washing it and running a hose over everything to get it to leak again. could not get it to leak but discovered that the didn't tq the back bolts near as much as the front ones on both roof ac units. i could wiggle the back of the ac units. i found a gap in the aluminum roof edge molding that tucks the pvc roof to the side walls. i filled that in and sealed all of that strip the length of both sides to be sure.  now the camper was tilted to the right side at camp. its possible the gasket leaked on the ac and it ran to closet first. opened the closet back wall which is open to the ceiling and put a fan on high for 8 hrs yesterday to dry what ever i could.

so 1250 lbs tongue weight with the rail backed in and here is a pic of the cat scale info, loaded for a dune trip with fire wood.

Mine are not torsion axles. They are leaf spring 7k lb axles. It ca be done for sure. No idea why the rep said it and didn't ask why , as it was apprrant they wouldn't.

Your trailer is not torsions is it? I do agree that how torsions mount it would concentrate the load BUT you can easily get around that with proper flitch plating. Dexter also does not like spread or triple axle torsions. The rubber in a torsion tube catches hell if turning sharp. I ran my spread axle torsions 45 foot  fiver for several years and had to do at least one tight radius turn every time out. I didn't have any issues that I could see anyway. The same forces are seen by the spindles with sprung spreads. I don't see a problem with the weights we haul. Spreads make differing payload weight distribution not as critical for sure. With a tag trailer for sure it would be a big plus,IMO.

interesting you mention spread axles. i requested spread axles while i was ordering it. i pre fer spread axles and they do carry the weight better imo.......if set right. i was told by casey, the dune sport saleman, that the trailer supplier ( lippert ) discourages spread axles set up on I beam frames. that is pretty much all campers. he stated that it loads the I beam in a less then perfect way. i looked online and couldn't find anything other then stress analysis tests standard, torsion and spread axle. the torsion axles actually load the I beam the worse. the torsion axles wind up in a condition that dexter calls racking.  i trusted them and went along. i know now they are not trust worthy.

i still like the idea of spread axles personally and may do so.

Yes it was amusing,  put a smile one my face ;D

The only thing local is a cat scale. There is a coop nearby but they weren't willing to let me weigh the tru k and camper l, a while back. I did order. Weigh safe hitch so I can weigh tongue weight.  My thought was to run to the cat scale empty and then measure tongue weight. If I have a base weight then I can see what the rail pulled in vs ba ked in does. Backed In is just a pain in the ass. But.....it is my theory that if the winch is well maintained that ill be just fine :m :m

As far as wheel wells go, there are none, I ordered this one with out skirting which means no wheel wells. Wouldn't be that hard to move the axles....in the grand scheme of things.  Looks like scotts rail will have to be backed in to fit. Might need a better winch!
[/quote]I did look back to the pics and saw no fenders. I just didn't remember . IMO,I would determine however I could where the axles need relocated to and be done with it.  You could consider making it a spread axle(only move the rear axle) to better distribute the weight loaded vs unloaded. My burned to the ground trailer had the spread axles and I loved how it towed.
