Personally, I have about had it with the tracking.
« on: November 16, 2017, 04:21:44 PM »
For me it came when the wife asked if I had been shopping for a new Cadillac. I had been, but she kept getting the ads for them. (A 3.6 ATS Coupe, white with Kona Brown - I could rock that)

You would be shocked on the “shadow profiles” Goggle and Facebook have on us.  My guess is they could account for about 24 hours of our days and make every nexus between people we may know.

It appears I am not alone as the Missouri AG is launching an antitrust investigation against Google.  https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/13/missouri-attorney-general-launches-an-anti-trust-investigation-against-google/amp/  So figured I would help some of you less tech savvy folks out.

First – Ditch Chrome or Internet Explorer if you still use that.  Go to Firefox.   Read up on the features a bit.  Learn to browse privately.   Here is an easy read.

https://thenextweb.com/apps/2017/11/15/how-to-switch-from-ram-hungry-chrome-to-speedy-firefox-quantum-in-2-minutes/

Second – Get an extension called UBlock.  That will stop a lot of it.  It can also interfere with some pages like Lowes and Home Depot, so learn how to turn it off on a page by page basis.

https://www.ublock.org/

Finally, set your search engine default to DuckDuckGo – They don’t track you.

https://duckduckgo.com/

Now, do that same deal on your phone, tablet, desktops, etc.  It makes surfing the web a bit better.

I am a curious person by nature, and I suspect I have been flagged.  Plenty of stories of police showing up based solely on web searches.  You know, watching Netflix and you think – does that really work?  Don’t do that shit citizen!

I could teach you how to get really crazy, but unless you are planning something, well, odd, there is no need to go there.

Anyway, take it, leave it, do as you will.

So couple weeks back, GF and I were "talking" about going/doing something, forget what doesn't matter.  And couple hrs later, scrolling Facebook and there are ads for exactly what we talked about.  Didn't search on phone or computer.  Ok weird I thought, but she had same ads on hers too.  Shit wheres my foil hat!!!!!!!

I don't know if they bug people, TV's did at one point and got caught.  Those home devices that listen all the time?  Alexa? Oh no.  Apparently Facebook can predict pregnancies, etc.

Escaping all of it requires a complete disconnect.  (Part of the reason the Vegas shooter is such a weird deal so far)  My goal anymore is to limit it.

bottom line is that we are all under surveillance 24 hours a day in one way or the other. There will soon be no such thing as privacy unless totally off grid.
