Yuma,Hottest City in USA
« on: June 27, 2015, 01:27:34 PM »
Beautiful city, great winter weather ,ya,ya,good but WTF is wrong with you guys that will be full timers there? (sandvw?????)Weather Channel just had an episode of the most extreme whatever weather in the USA. Yuma is the hottest ,driest. Pretty damn sure Yuma will not be my retirement destination. Thinking Idaho is a better fit for me. Sweat, lots and lots of sweat, is a bad thing. ;) ;)

Yuma is no place to live in the summer that's for sure, and when the snowbirds get there in the fall you have a different set of problems lol.

Hey,DW,are there any places for a tractor trailer sized RV to park for a week in Yuma area? RV hookups/pull thru spots.

I'm sure there are . Yuma is pretty set up to run for winter camping. Lots of very nice camping places around.

Just left St Anthony Dunes. Stopped and met Todd and Veronica. Now 1400 or miles back to Arkansas.

There are many campgrounds out there. Some have age restrictions on RV's though. The one we stay at on the river has a 6 year or newer policy. Can get a waiver if you send them pics and they OK it. They don't want old POS's there LOL.....

A large portion of the snowbirds camp in the middle of nowhere, no hook-ups. It's BLM land so they move every 14 days. There are water and honey dipper trucks that service them.

I have yet to see a pull through spot.

I only looked at a hand full of these places and many had parking for big rigs and pull thru spots.

Thanx,DW. I looked at those previously but, reading reviews and such, it seems like most would be a bit difficult getting a true big rig sized  truck/trailer in/out  even the ones that claim pull thru spots. Kind of hate to get somewhere, find out it was" big rig accessible-pull thru spots" , but only if there wasn't  anyone parked 6" outside of their own spot each side of me.

I don't think they would like me,my Kodiak is a '94.Tell me more if you can ,where those areas are at. I'm fully self contained, able to dry camp for 5-7 days at a time.

Almost everywhere around Yuma is open dry camping.  Lots and lots of places.  If you get bored in Yuma you can head north a bit to Quartz Site and experience the decadence of 10,000 snow birds clumped together in the desert.

Think "Burning Man" for AARP members.   LMAO

Below is a list of LTVA's (Long term visitors areas)  but really, most of it is open land, permit required, stay out of the bombing range, stay North of the 8 (Illegals will steal your shit south of I8  ), pull over and dry camp.

Nicole with ASA (ngilles@asasand.org) lives in Brawley, CA and she can likely tell you plenty of places to go set up or point you to a group that can.

Komifornia side has Senator wash. Lots of good riding and trails over there. But, you are in Komifornia. People camp next to the boat parking are at lake Martinez. Good trails between there and hidden shores. Just don't get to far from the river or you will be in the proving grounds.
