Need compiuter geek HELP!!!!

Does anyone know of a company that specializes in retrieving data from an apparently intentionally erased hard drive? Long story.  Did you use them yourself? Was it successful?  Long story short,is that I have dual drive laptop that has ALL my CAD/CAM  stuff on it ,the monitor died,the fooking "pro" apparently erased BOTH of the drives during data transfer ,leaving me with NOTHING! The fooker had the nerve to say they BOTH were blank. I'M PISSED to say the least!  I know that the data is there and that there are companies that can do it. Expensive but I've got hundreds of hours of work on those drives. Does anyone have a company they can recommend?

ouch. 

OK, likely going to have to go to the nearest big city.   Check there for some referrals.    Sounds like he re formated the disk?  if that is the case it does not sound good.  Very labor intensive to remove data from a disk drive unless you reformat the whole thing. 

About 300.00 or so if they can do it.  We have used guys on damaged discs - ie water , smoke, etc, but have never tried to recover from a re formated disck. 

When you get it recovered get a back up system.  Carbonite, ect.

I'm seeing in the area of a thousand dollars likely. SUX but I have way more in time in them than that. Fook! Even that would be a bargain. I just need to know of the BEST place there is. I reALLY Can't lose this stuff. I've done the online research but am looking for testimonials I guess.

I can not believe you.  As methodical as you are about your work, but with no back up wow.  What was you thinking.  Back up Back up Back up.  There are even places on the Webb now that you can back up to with little or no charge.  Fail Fail Fail
If nothing else just use the disk or thum drive and a good hi gig flash drive.
I used a company in Cali year's ago I would not know the the name of the out fit now but I will say that they can retrieve your data even if it was formated.

we have sent a few bad drives out to get data recovered.. average cost after all said and done was about $3000.  if it was reformatted, there very slim chance that data can be recovered because a full format actually destroys the current data.. if it was just erased, then only the location of the data is gone and most can be retrieved.  IF the guy ionly did a quick format, then also data can be recovered.. usually.

Damn, Sorry to hear it Fabr.  I haven't personally used anyone for that type of service.  When a comp dies we always just swap the drives into another PC and copy the data.  Dunno about doing that with a laptop.

There's no way that both drives just lost shit at the same time. It appears a quik reformat was done. I'll know more soon. Since all my stuff was already getting a backup with the dual hard drives the chance of losing anything ,unless malicious, is just about zero so no I was not using a third party backup or even a 3rd backup with an external hard drive. I still have my CAM stuff on memory sticks but no way to convert any of them back into CAD with Alibre. There are companies that claim to be able to recover reformatted data.

I too am really bad about backing up work but when I'm thru I usually print out the page and file it so I can get it all greasy with my hands later!  ;)  rofl

hope you find someone, there has got to be several out there in this day and age!!
