The news game has aLways been about profit.the difference is that INTEGRITY has been removed. It is the loss of INTEGRITY not profit that makess the media the whores they are. Don't even try to say that profit causes the loss of honesty in reporting. They operated for a couple of centuries on their own idea of integrity. It is only in recent history that the news media has lost integrity and pursued profit with a passion over honest,just the facts reporting. I'm sure that a gov run news agency would be much more honest. 
It has been more than recent history. If anything, it was not that long ago when they started to have integrity before losing it. Very few papers would print an article about the Wright brother's flight in 1903. Those that did made up wild stories. One said they flew 3 miles. The picture next to the article was not even their plane.
