The bird feeder
« on: March 28, 2009, 09:53:00 AM »
I can't wait to hear trojans comments. ;D ;D ;D

   THIS  SAYS  IT  ALL

Take Down the Bird Feeder

The analogy is absolutely right on . . .
Maxine tells it like it is!!!!

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
It on my back porch and filled
It with seed. What a beauty of
A bird feeder it is, as I filled it
Lovingly with seed. Within a
Week we had hundreds of birds
Taking advantage of the
Continuous flow of free and
Easily accessible food.

But then the birds started
Building nests in the boards
Of the patio, above the table,
And next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was
Everywhere: on the patio tile,
The chairs, the table ..
Everywhere!

Then some of the birds
Turned mean. They would
Dive bomb me and try to
Peck me even though I had
Fed them out of my own
Pocket.

And others birds were
Boisterous and loud. They
Sat on the feeder and
Squawked and screamed at
All hours of the day and night
And demanded that I fill it
When it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even
Sit on my own back porch
Anymore. So I took down the
Bird feeder and in three days
The birds were gone. I cleaned
Up their mess and took down
The many nests they had built
All over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like
It used to be.... Quiet, serene
And no one demanding their
Rights to a free meal.

Now let's see.
Our government gives out
Free food, subsidized housing,
Free medical care, and free
Education and allows anyone
Born here to be an automatic
Citizen.

Then the illegal came by the
Tens of thousands. Suddenly
Our taxes went up to pay for
Free services; small apartments
Are housing 5 families; you
Have to wait 6 hours to be seen
By an emergency room doctor;
Your child's 2nd grade class is
Behind other schools because
Over half the class doesn't speak
English.

Corn Flakes now come in a
Bilingual box; I have to
'press one' to hear my bank
Talk to me in English, and
People waving flags other
Than 'Old Glory' are
Squawking and screaming
In the streets, demanding
More rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
To take down the bird
Feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not,
Continue cleaning up the poop!

I've been pondering this thread for some time
It really is truthful, My mom has about 15 bird feeders around her house,
she's always buggin me to come and assinate her "unwanted birds" Bluejays, Starlings, Squirrels,Grackles...etc...The Bear that comes and bends all the poles over, and sits down to a tastee feast...
Mom just can't fathom the fact that I really don't want to blast all these creatures cuz she basically just has to quit feeding them...TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT 1200 BUX OER YEAR IN FOOD AND FEEDER'S...
Now think about this...
Spend 1200 bux per year to bitch about the little fooker's your encouraging to come and get a free meal...
We need to open our eyes and smell the burnt toast...

Hmm, I think you're onto something there Bugpac.

And Spec, you said "How do you Aussies take car of vermin, if you can't shoot them?"

Well we have lots of vermin, many introduced species.  I live on 5 acres bordering a National Park.  It's tranquil, serene and I'm only 20 minutes from the CBD.  But I get many ferals coming onto my property seeking a free feed.  Mainly foxes and cats.  Seems they've eaten all our native species.

I used to shoot them.  And still could if I wanted to.  But shooting wakes the kids and I have to wash away the cats blood in the morning.  I also have to stay awake and wait for the bastards.  After a few nights it becomes tedious.  So I tried something different.

Now, all I do is set up my you-beaut trap as soon as I catch wind that the bastards are around.  I get up early and sure enough I've caught me a feral cat (very rare to get a fox these days).  Sometimes I catch a cat with a collar.  But I figure that if the cat has come through the National Park it's fair game.

Now for the wet work.  I have a 44 gallon drum with an end cut out.  I fill the drum with water and then drop the trap into the drum.  Moggy struggles for about 25 seconds, then is at peace.

After a brief requiem mass I open the trap and drop moggy into its final resting place.  RIP.

So, Bugpac, if you're gonna send them over, make sure its via Indonesia and during the cyclone season.  It's less traumatic for everyone if you don't attract attention.  And it gets the job done.

And therein lies the real truth about gun control. You still manage to kill a defenseless animal and in a less than humane way. ONE bullet and instant death,no suffering. 25 seconds of absolute terror as that animals  last gasp is taken. You are an asshole. Sorry for the personal attack but you are a barbarian, sir. I hope you never have a child or family member drown . God help us though if you do because water and barrels  will need banned then. As shown,PEOPLE kill PEOPLE just as PEOPLE kill ANIMALS. Guns or not. It's not a problem to kill.

In camel's defense, I asked
It's not as humane as a clean headshot, but more humane than what I have seen from city worker's doing to some of the cats I trapped in the past...
I have never been shot in the head so I couldn't say if it hurts or not, But if I had to choose my demise I would rather drown than starve to death...Or be stoned to death...
I hate to see anything killed...But, I eat meat,so something has to die...I always hope that it was quick and painless...and feel bad for them :-[ :-[

Masterfabr,

an asshole? a barbarian?

You are not listening.  Furthermore you choose to let your emotions cloud your perceptions.

At no stage have I stated or implied that the USA should have gun control.

But still you choose to attack me on an issue that I'm not pushing or defending.

As for death by drowning, given all the options, it is the most appropriate solution.  If that offends your subtle sensitivities then so be it.  I shall continue to drown feral cats until such time that a better solution is available.
