Title: So what do you do when you are buggy free
Post by: Yummi on August 16, 2016, 09:02:00 AM
So what do you do when you are buggy free and have nothing to suck up wads of cash?

Apparently you remodel.  Just figured I would share...

What do you do when you are remodeling and have a buggy?
You sit forlornly in it making vroom, vroom noises wishing you were pretty much anywhere west of Kansas.......

Thinking naw.

If I were to get a new toy, would be SxS.  Hard to ignore the improvements.

The Yamaha and the new CanAm really look great.  I suspect mini buggies are a thing of the past?  Auto powered will still be around, but hard to beat some of the SxS's for what they now offer.

I'd say you are correct except for those desiring BIG HP .

It is all about power to weight and the thrill of the "quickness" for me. When I pack that 1050cc turbo nytro in my car you will need about 700-800hp to touch me Fabr! Then I will just out handle your big ass in the tight stuff. rofl rofl rofl

24" with the frame smacking the ground.

24" of travel on the big one with 16" of ground clearance, might have an inch or 2 clearance at full bump.

A sxs would be fun for trails.  But if it is 154 hp to 1600 lbs, no comparison in the sand.  My buggy is 1600 lbs wet with going on 400 hp.

Acceleration performance is nothing more than adequate traction and more HP per pound than your opponent.

I do have to admit Yummi, the SxS are getting much better looking and more performance ( hp and suspension ).  They would really be cool in places like AZ where you can drive them on the streets.  I just don't trust the frames.  Are they getting stronger?

The new can am has a fully welded cage. No bolt on stuff. But they're pig heavy.

Pig heavy or heavy enough to be safe????????

his is a good question however since i have no first hand knowledge i can only say....based on all of them i have seen sitting in the parking lots with the cages crushed down in the drivers head area and bent frames and busted suspension components hanging off or strapped to other parts i am going to go with just a plain old pig heavy  ;D ;D :)

they do look better and the rzr1000 i believe is under a recall right now for turbo failures..... i think the dealership is saying to park them, so your not suppose to drive them until they figure out how to fix the issue. which means we don't know how to fix it cheap just yet but do know how to fix it right  rofl rofl

154 to 1600 lbs isn't impressive, the tq is more impressive and the cvt is what makes those units shine, i don't think that new shifter model would be as much fun simply imo because of the loss of speed between shifts at that power to weight ratio. but for those that don't know better and/or don't want to know better these utv's are the best dune buggy ever! sign and drive with full coverage and mechanics all over to bend you over w/o lube LMAO LMAO

I don't want to start any shit fests or disparage any builders here or elsewhere but I've seen plenty of crushed upper cages from minor endos and roll overs on sxs's and also on several minibuggies. IMO,99% of all cars are under built. That includes OEM,major/minor builders and home built.

If this topic was on GD I'd gleefully start one.  ;) ;D ;D The difference is I have a great deal of respect for our builder members. That said I know of one substantially deformed upper cage in the recent past that should not have deformed at all. Honestly ,I don't feel safe in most cars. I also don't take many rides. Most harnesses are inadequate as well since the majority have not been regularly adjusted ,keeping them easily adjustable. I will always err on the side of safety/durability. Performance is secondary to me.

i just marked this one down on my calendar as a once in a lifetime event kind of like a ufo sighting LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO

i know full well who you are referring to........... we weren't there to see the hit ( fast and jerry and i think budlight were) and if that cage was made out of heavier wall plus with more bracing in maybe 3 diff spots the outcome would've been diff but it did bend around head pockets as intended so worked out . now do that to one of the utv's and what do you think they'll look like after seeing how far they crush after one roll over.........and the other was a complete flip landing flat on the roof lol
