I am curious if the LBGT community will try to protect the sanctity of marriage against the polygamist community? Love is love right? Congrats to them on their victory today.
I don't give a rats ass if two guys get married. Marriage has been changed. Scalia had it right yesterday. "Words have no meaning. Hokery Pokery" Dudes call themselves women. Whites call themselves blacks. You are whatever you say you are.

Why do we even need a GOV ruling on this? What happened to separation of church and state? Isn't marriage a church thing?

Yes and no. See "marriage" has been a church thing longer than we have been a country. That's cool. We adopted it. Now, gays could get a "civil union" but the mere differentiation in the term makes it sub standard to marriage. So, to be equal they need to have "marriage." They now do.
Again, I don't give two rips if guys, girls, transsexuals, unisexuals, non sexuals, a sexuals or whatever get married. Having said that there are clearly issues.
First up? Tax exempt status for churches. That was resolved in 1983 with bi racial marriages. If they preach marriage between a man and a woman exclusively, then they may well loose their exempt status. As you may suspect I likewise don't give two rips about a church's exempt status. What I do care about is the ability for individuals to worship as they see fit.
"Inclusive" churches will have a significant financial advantage to "oppressive" churches. The government is now in the business of redefining words, and promoting faiths that have the most liberal of agendas.
Like I say, we lost our moral compass; today it was codified.
On the bright side I am spending the weekend looking for a sister wife for Shana. I want to be on the leading edge.

Personally I feel the word marriage should include all 2 party couples from a legal/taxation standpoint. I also feel it is ,or should be,mandatory for churches/faiths/beliefs/people to be free to believe and promote whatever they wish. If we completely lose that then,wellllll,shit hits the fan as all zealots will be more than ready to start "holy hell".

I now have a "fundamental right" to marry. Limiting "fundamental rights" is very tricky.
Think of voting. It is a "fundamental right." Very very difficult to limit that right. Poll tax? Literacy test? Residency requirement? ID? Very very difficult to limit the fundamental right of voting.
They just opened a can of crazy new shit that nobody bargained for.

I am pretty socially liberal.
I see real problems with elevating "marriage" to a "fundamental right."
Everybody yammering about their rights, people should be working on their responsibilities.

To me,the issue is that the beliefs of one group,even if it is the majority, is being forced on all. That is the new reality we will be living with for some time. A very long time. WHatever happened to the fundamental right to believe as we feel right without government interference?
