Title: Enemys suspension "Fox 2.0 air shocks"
Post by: Admin on October 25, 2008, 01:45:59 PM
thanks spec  :)
enemy can definitely drive, and he did help build part of that rail with me. his rail is a prototype of my new design and enemy was willing to be the guinipig. we have had to make 3 changes before he powdercoated but it's right on the money now.    ;D
my trailer has everything but a bathroom, but I did see that they have new toilets and shower up and running on there web site. are these the same as when you went down?

Im very surprised of your layout of the shocks tho, you should know better... ;D

I am sure I will get a phone call for posting this but just keep in mind that enemy made about 30 perfect jumps and only 1 hair raising one. A friend caught this hair raising jump on his pic camera and posted it on his youtube site.
I thought enemy did a great job keeping his composure.
I have watched this video several times and I think his rear shocks may need another 10cc's of oil, other than that looks great to me. any opinions?

He said he was running 700lbs of n2 in the 2.0's and had to change to a 2.5, the motion ratio looks very very large to me... It may be landing all right now, but, from your previous cars seems you had everything all figured out...

what is the travel on the front? shock vs wheel?

I think it was actually the red car that looked like they were lying down...

700lbs of n2 is equal to approximately 773.50 lbs of spring rate, were was he adding the n2 at ride height or with the shock completely extended...

the air times 1.105 is the spring rate..

a 14" shock with 365 psi n2 and 370 cc's of oil will be:

If setting on 4.5" of shock travel, Ie 1/3 the shock for ride height

It would take 622 lbs to put it there, have a 57lb spring rate, and the n2 pressure would be 515

If bottomed out at the full 14" of travel

It would take 4788 lbs to get it there, have a 3733 spring rate, and a n2 pressure of 3965

I can't imagine the numbers at 700 psi...

What did i confuse you on, go back and read your replys etc, this is what i replied to you...

Your the guy building the car, you can do it whatever way you like, Im just saying there is better ways to do it..with that much n2 and that jump that enimy did that car should have landed a whole lot better than hitting the ground...To each his own...

To set it straight, and i will leave it at that, this car is bottomed out before it ever leaves the ground.... Tell me that is ideal and i will leave it alone...

Im not trying to bash you "Enemy" or Dsrace, As my inital comment, I have seen some very nice cars from him, I was surprised to see this front suspension setup, after seeing his past builds at mbn...That is all, makes for conversation, I am just pointing out, that that car would likely handle far better with a different shock array... ;D

WOW Bug..Ok... ::)  It's clear that you can judge everything about anything from a picture, for that you are truly special..I applaud you. But..can you calculate my speed, and the attack angle of that ramp and how tall that jump is?? So going from say 5 degrees of attack to an almost instant 50 degrees of ramp angle at say 40+mph should in no way tax ANY suspension system? I am going to assume you have the math for this as well.My checkbook is out with pen in hand. YOU build me the correct suspension, obviously you already have it figured out...now back to our regularly scheduled program about SYRACUSE

Ok, if you wanna play like that, I am game...

Get some video of it running thru the whoops at 45 - 50 mph that will tell all...Maybe it is perfect the way it is...

Great, your game, then bash my car in an appropriate thread..I will get you the video you desire the next time I get to the dunes. Do you have a preferred speed you would like the video of? I WILL have the gps to confirm it......

First of all, I will post wherever i like!  Second, as i said initaly, i was not trying to bash your car, Dsrace is the one who took offense to asking about 700 psi in the shocks.. Actually i think your car looks great, and your a crazy son of a bitch. Yes video of the whoops, try it at say 90 mph, that should make an interesting clip....

First of all, i asked a simple question about 700lbs of n2, if you two ladys cant humor me and play along without getting your pantys in a wad, that is your problem. And IMO rather your masterfabbers friends or not, I dont much care.

The reference to the minibuggy thread was mearly to point out none of us are experts. If i pissed you two ladys off i am sorry..

Now that we've all taken our ''SHOTS'' let's get to the theory of air's and they're placement and angle... I don't use them, but have read lots...
BTW... I'd like to hear about the launch video...It seems to me a couple of things came into play...But I'd like to hear it from the driver 8)

Well, In a nutshell, I should not have even attempted to hit that ramp at that speed, or at all for that matter! I had a gut feeling that it became too steep too fast for its height, and that little lip at the top was going to be the bronco that just bucked off another rider at a wild horse race. Made for a good vid though!! ;D..
I won't call it a bad habit, but I tend to push things a bit to far mechanical wise, but I do believe the suspension saved my ass! As far as placement and pressures go? I don't have a clue why that stuff works, and frankly don't care to learn. (not an area I'm much interested in..)I just want to know that it does work so I can have fun! Sorry if I went off on ya a bit last night Bug, I had some help from the Therapist..(Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum...yummy)

I was at Little Sahara with dsrace and Enemy. Enemys car seemed to run flawless. He ran the tar out of that thing. I'd say that thing is dialed in on the money.  ;D bb:

I have a dsrace buggy and tried standing the shocks up more and it backfired. It took more pressure to keep the front up 700psi vs 375psi.

This is a dead thread, It was running way off track, I have added a new thread about air shocks if we want to have a friendly debate.. Actually there is some shock theroys etc i would love to discuss.. But for now I am locking this up. And again Sorry to Enemy and Dsrace for Using there cars as examples in a negative thread...

Friendly debate about shocktuning/suspension  theory would be good and welcome topic. fabr
