Title: Under way
Post by: DaveM on February 08, 2010, 04:11:24 PM
With the fun we have with Hemi43's machine, it convinced me that I needed in on the fun. Picked up a project and am underway in the mods to try and keep up. Some redneck engineering going on while I figure things out. Once drivetrain, suspension stuff is sorted out, things will get tidied up.

Power won't be an issue for now as It has a 670 Rotax in it. I picked up a Polaris 700 twin ATV 4 stroke that will find it's way in someday.
We had a blast out running together one day, but my handling just didn't cut it, couldn't barely keep up on anything twisty.

No problem, just spend a few nights with him in the shop at his place a viola!! riding on air. Needs some seat time, dialing in time, but the first shakedown went well, it's a big improvement. Oh , and new shoes too.

Still not as nice as an a-arm set-up but I'm limited by the stock axles and the way this suspension moves. Front is temporary and will eventually be switched to a-arms.
Yes, the store bought fuel cell will be switched to a custom made one soon.

All done and getting abused weekly. Got some Ryde FX air shocks on the front now since this picture

Moved the seating position rearward, moved the steering yoke back. Replaced the factory plastic footpan with sheet metal floorpan, this gave me more room for a foot throttle and a more comfy seating position. I changed the steering geometry a bit and it seems to work better for me.

How about that muffler?  Vid seems to have a very quiet smooth sound to it rather than the normal two stroke cackle.

The camera is mounted in a weather tight housing, and being mounted up front does'nt capture the motor noise. Although the muffler does a pretty good job of keeping the tailpipe noise down, and keeping it from carrying any distance, the motor and expansion chamber still make lots of noise.
This is closer to what you hear riding it.
