Sprocket drive bearings
« on: June 30, 2014, 01:43:21 PM »
So after bottoming out car do a leap off 8-10' sand bank I'm doing some rework of center section.  currently setup uses these r22-2rs bearing, although of unknown quality.
http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/SealedBearings/Kit9342
Got about 4 trips to LS on them.

Looking at these in there place, will take a little machine to open up a itty bit more (using my eyeball calipers)
http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/ANGULAR_CONTACT/Kit8358

Also found some oil seals to run and help keep out the crud, I'll run with either bearing.  Looked at some tapered ones, but setting preload with the rear drive setup will be a real problem. so kinda ruled that out.
Gonna pull center out, cut off mounts and send to machine anyhow so redoing for new bearings wont matter ( gonna make getting those $%^&$% cv's off easier Fast!!)  Also a new rear sprocket and prob a chain.  Realign the carrier, check motor alignment, couple new bracing tubes, and see if I can find a new weak point!?!

So whats your thought on bearing, and/or a diff bearing?  Need a ID bearing of 1.375 to slip shaft thru.

I thought we discussed this, carl. This is the design of bearing you need for your unit (  rofl, nothing personal intended in that remark  rofl) to work and live well.

or this if you prefer using 2 singles on each side instead of the double like above,

Most bearings are metric. Are you sure yours are not? Would this one work?   http://www.skf.com/group/products/bearings-units-housings/ball-bearings/angular-contact-ball-bearings/double-row-angular-contact-ball-bearings/double-row/index.html?prodid=125003207&imperial=false  ?
What dimensions are you really needing in mm?

Your arrangement NEEDS the angular contact ball bearing style since it sees both radial AND axial loads.   Can you possibly get by with a traditional deep groove bearing design? Well ,I think you saw the results of that . They are cheaper though.

I about forgot ,you NEED a doublr row style since it is already preloaded and will not need any axial adjustment as a single row style would. Forget i mentioned a single row style arranged in opposing pairs. It would work but not well. Double row style will well.

p/u new rear sprocket.  Its larger and steel.  Shouldnt ever wear out and now I'll be able to run larger front sprocket which will make chains wear better too.  Now to get all pulled apart and get to machine shop..............

steel still wears but 62 to 74 is a pretty big jump so def better and going to a larger front will def help the chain too lol   need to build a sprocket guard under the rear section too, cause there's plenty of debris under the sand lol

Ya,like fence posts all over the place. You would think that whenever they let the dune boundaries/fence shift that they would remove the posts they leave for us to impale ourselves on.  Many are just sticking up a foot or 2 ready to seriously injure/kill. BS on the park management.
