I am putting a 091 into a bug with 3x3 arms. I bought the mount kit and shift drop for the shift tube. Does anyone have any pictures of this for me to see. I am making the front tranny mount.
What other fabbing needs to be done?
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
DAN

Ditch the shifter drop and do a 10* mount.
-
I don't have a clue but I bet bdkw is right. BTW,hello,Dan.

What is s 10* mount drop?
DAN
Hello to Masterfab.
-
It is a different set of trans mounts that angles the nose down 10*. This puts your shifter back in the tunnel and gives you about 4" more ground clearance at the rear of the motor.
With the way that drop bracket swings, if your shifter shaft bushing has any slop in it your shift will feel like a wet noodle. The side to side movement wears out the bushings real quick too.

And if you do go this route, please weld the top and bottom of the frame horns back together after you cut out the rib. The rib is welded and when it gets cut out you need to weld the top and bottom back together or bad things will happen. This should really be in the instructions.............
-
OK as I get into this more I see instructions to do this. I have made my own mount for the front that will put the shift connection back in the same hole as the bug. Some instructions that I read say I need to shorten the shift tube. Do I need to shorten or not.
A friend of mine is letting me use his garage and so I only work on this on the weekend. It sucks having all your tools and things in Yuma and not being able to work on it during the week.
Thanks for the information.
BTW I do not like bad things!!

I did get the Baja on wheels today and back in the trailer. I need to modify several things yet.
-
top shock mounts are in.

Cool,progress always feels good.

Dan
Is there anyway you can get a suport tube in like this. Something to take the shock force.
-
Glenn,
Yes there is room for one. You see there is one from the bottom. I did not know if I needed one on the top side too.
-
I'm with Fast on the tube, and try to mount opposite from shock angle would be best all thought not usually possible. Those are some serious tires.
-

Your small tube is good for the the straight up force but the shock will be wanting to push back and up at the same time. Got to remember that the shock will have leaverage on the mount. Where the top mount bolt is compared to the center line of the mount it's self. Tube should be a the lest 1.00 inch. Looking good Dan.
-
Glenn,
When I am looking at your picture, the tubing I need to put in is on the top of the shock mount back to the roll bar?
-
I think I see what you are saying Dan but try taking a pic or 2 from different angles. I think Glenn and Carl are looking for some triangulation that looks to be missing.
-
I took 3 more pictures from a different angle.
-
Must be the operator. 2 more
-

Yes top rear from where the top shock bolt go's. then triangulate back and up to the roll bar.
-
different one. The operator seems to have a problem this morning.
-
Finally driving the BAJA. Need to rebuild the front end. I thought after 20 years of running the river beds and the desert before I ran the freeways I should rebuild the front end.
-
LOL! DOn't want you wandering around on the freeway now do we? Hehheheee Looks great ,Dan!
-
Looks like new shoes to boot. Still like the throw back paint job.
-
Looking good Dan. Keep it on the road around home.
