Title: vw drive flanges
Post by: hemi43 on January 20, 2011, 06:26:17 PM
I know you guys are using 930 cv's, but they are too big for my application.
I've been using mid 90's vw Golf CV joints (100mm), left side axles, wheel bearings and flanges.
I found out that the splines of the inboard CV joint is the same as the spline on the drive flanges. Because of this, I cut and weld 2 axles shafts together to make the main shaft that holds the 2 flanges. (I hope you can visualize what I'm doing)
I get the flanges from the wreckers, but are a royal pain in the ass to remove because usually the car is sitting in mud.
I am trying to find out if the older VW bugs had the same splines, because I can buy flanges from CIP1 that have the older bug splines on one side and the bus bolt pattern for the 100mm CV joint on the other. I'll try and post a picture of my setup.
Thanks, Dan
