VW 091 TO Busa Adapter Preliminary Results
« on: October 16, 2010, 02:09:20 PM »
Thought I'd report that the 091/busa adapter I've been working on for the last year and a half or more passed preliminary testing here and at LS were very satisfying. There were no issues of any kind. The cushion coupling also,IMO,added greatly to the smoothness and complete lack of any noticable driveline shock under any condition. I was not able to push it into any real extra HP over the stock 175 due to "technical difficulties" eyes rofl but I think further testing will prove out to be good also. So far as the 091 is concerned I feel that it's track record of capabilities will allow it to be able to handle a boosted busa ,using weddle internals and a super diff, without any undue issues. I mean ANYTHING can be broken at some point. IF there are any issues in the adapter I think that they will be easily remedied.  Only thing COULD/SHOULD be a possiblity would be a heat treat issue due to my voodoo heat treating in my small furnace but  I don't really foresee any tho. A few pics for those that may not have seen it.

So whens it going to be on the open market? And can I help build them when you are swamped with the order back log :o :o ;D :D

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

Does that chain require lubing? It's some sort of special 'silent' chain, isn't it? Like a modern cam chain, but wider?

As soon as it passes testing. Real testing . A minimum of 80 hours of beating the crap out of it with the busa boosting at least 10 pounds.. I feel if it can take that then it has a real chance of being reliable for 95% of all possible users . IF I were to be lucky enough to have it accepted into the market I know your capabilities would be a real asset to fall back on IF I had such a backlog..

It runs in the same oil sump as the transaxle. Yes it is full time lubed. It is similar to a timing chain but actually is a transfer case type chain. Much higher tech construction that will not "stretch" at al after initial break in time. Set up taut and it will within an hour be at a near permanent size. The same type chain is also used in many FWD trannies also.

Sweet! So, basically bulletproof then.

Do you reckon there'll be a decent market for these? You could probably sell at least a couple of dozen a year, if you price 'em right.

You could adapt the design for a range of bike motors and car trannies, depending of demand of course!

I don't really have a clue if anyone else would want one. IF it truly passes durability testing I  want to give it a try though.I can only say that having 2 or three final drive ratios at the touch of a shifter is pretty effin sweet for sure! MAYBE easily adaptable to other bike motors but I think it has to be big CC stuff though to justify the weight. I have already had inquiries about doing the same with a lighter/narrower type1 box and am looking into it. Don't know at this time if it's practical  or not due to the one piece case. That might be a good possibility for smaller CC superbike engines if it can be done.

I think an enclosed chain set-up for a RPM or Jeffco would be a better seller. Many of those all ready out there.............
