Carbie cleaner, or a mix of diesel and kero, degreaser, just be careful if it has rubber O rings you might not want to use the carbie cleaner. :o

alot of it will come off on it's own and ya all over everything unless you have a chain guard! after that clean it up as best as you can, I like to just spray it down with a can of wd40 then re-coat it with good lube while it's still on the sprockets!

After you run it ,clean it with brake cleaner. Brake cleaner will not harm the o rings. Then use your fancy ass lube stuff. I assume it needs a clean ,non-oily surface.

To clean the lube off it I put it on the bike and run it for a couple hundred miles. It's usually all gone by then.  ;D  For re-lubingg I wash it down with WD. After it drys for a while I coat it with Maxima chain wax.

WD-40  CAN swell the rings but I'd not worry about it,you aren't going to leave it soaked with it.. I would tho go to a non oily surface for any of the DFL(dry film lube)  stuff tho. It'll stay on much longer then.

fabbr I did not know this!

I have never soaked one in wd just used it to wash the crud off before I wiped it down and coated with with a dry lube.

I did come across a chain lubricant once that I really liked, it sprayed on white then turned kind of a purplish color as it hardened into a wax like substance. a little pricy but didn't sling off and sand didn't seem to stick to it. I would coat my chain before the trip and not again for a short time after returning home and hitting the dirt! I used it on heims as well and other stuff till it was gone, I threw the can away but when I went back to get another can they didn't carry it anymore.

Personally haven't used the hard way types but the moly DFL does a pretty good job reducing chain temps. I'd apply it once a day. I've heard the wax types are more durable.

I'm with you BDKW1, I only use Maxima chain wax... I have for years with much success and will continue to use it.

I used an infrared temp gun on my chain at the track with a couple of different lubes and it kept the temps down with out all of the dirt adhesion, which will prematurely wear your chains and sprockets.
See you all duneside.😎🤙
