Seriously need to think about light bars
« on: November 26, 2011, 11:50:38 AM »
Recently I have seen more and more pictures with light bars caving in the roof.  We all need to rethink this.  Happened this weekend to a good friend.   He was with his mom of all passengers.  In any event, rolled a lip, table shelf, second lip right after the first and a soft roll.  Landed on all fours.  Everybody was OK.  I was not yet there.  Had I been, I would have been right behind him with a whole new set of pictures.  Car is fine but for the light bar and roof panel.  He will forgo bar and install LED bar.

Be Safe.

The problem is the hoop.  They cave in roofs.  An LED bar will not cave in roof.  Smaller - about 4" tall.   Should be a safer alternative.

I think the light bar's would tend to break off from there small alum tabs first.  And like Yummi said they are much shorter and could not cave the roof in as much.  I never have liked the idea of a light bar because of the long arm's that hold them in adjustment can come lose and poke into the passenger compartment.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

Realistically a bar is fine. It's the arms(and the hoop) like fast says. Build them like any  suspension link with beefy heims and the issue goes away IMO.

the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."
