Lencos are 2 spees planetaries stacked together to get whatever combination you want in a custom tranny. Way I take it is that this dude adapts an OEM tranny to function as an auto/manual.

I see a lot of drag in having multiple clutch packs. It would also make for longer shafts, more flex, high rotating mass.........The Wiesmann sprag tranny's are a way better set-up, just no decel braking........

Take a hell of a lot of adapting.

It is really just an automatic with a clutch for each gear.

A lenco is better IMO because as you shift each gear the clutch for that pack engages and removes the reduction of that pack and makes it 1:1.  With the Goatley, one pack has to disengage so the next can engage, so you either let it slip to neutral for a split second or you have two gears working against each other as the clutches trade.

A Liberty functions like a motorcycle tranny with dogs that grab the next gear forcing the lower gear to let go.  This is good because there is no power drain, but it smacks the motor really hard when it catches each gear.

It also seems like the goatley would be heavier overall.  Most OEM automatics and the lenco use multiple reductions, and as each is locked up to 1:1 you get closer to high.  The downside is all of the power is going through each stage either locked or unlocked.  If you have a failure you are walking.  With the goatley you may be able to limp home.  None of us have ever needed to do that.......

A lenco is better IF it can be used of course. A liberty is great for drag/road racing. The Goatly concept is sound. There's also a load of ideas that come to mind for adapting the idea to other uses also. Don't be so closed minded guys! LOL!!!!
