Budlight says plenty of sites open last week of April. How does that work for everyone?
Carl? Bigdave?
-
So doug spurred everyone to decide o. That last week of April per a mass text. Sounds like Mike, bullfight, Allan and Doug reserved there sites. I have not and will not until I have a running and driving rail. I got the accy wire harness stripped and started rebuilding it over the weekend. If there are not sites available then I will figure it out.
-
I'm in the same Boat DS. at this point transaxles replacement is a long way off. my guess maybe next fall. i will have it back together.

understandable big dave !
I hope to fire scotts off this weekend. Thats if the coil pack shows in a usable condition. We will see if the radiator leaks at that time. Gutted the 11 relays and 2 fuse block box. I only need 4 relays and 6 fuses for that rail. Son in law and grandson helped Friday evening for a bit. Removed all the undergrowth lights. Replaced the taillights with led straps and removed all 6 chrome bullet lights with led bars on order. May run it for a while as I am kind of wanting a full body rail with the overhaul this winter. May not be done till next fall.
I need scotts running so that I don't miss anymore trips.

. Dave, do you rebuild your own transmissions or send them out somewhere?
-
I have fingers crossed to have the 427 ready for spring but who knows when Liberty gets my valves done and then I have to send head to Jesel for them to make the custom/correct geometry rockers for them. SHit,I'm probably still 6 months out before I have all the parts. Hope this old Nascar engine holds up till then.

Thanks. So far, all is good. Really, it is enough engine but more is always better. :m

I have heard great comments about az transaxle but never personally used them. Shane is only 1.5 hrs away but he only works on them after his day job so takes prob twice as long. You'll get it repaired when you can :nw....... or maybe you'll find a 2d or hv24 used??!! ;D. One just never knows what will fill into your lap when you searching the net really hard rofl

Booked! Now to just get in a house w a garage. Still have a few tweaks.
-
That's great Carl. It's been too long!
-
definitely been too long carl! now buy that women and house with a garage so she can park out side so there's room for the rail :m
we booked site 636 last night.
-
Crickets.lol.
We finially close on new home end of March. 4 months later than original exp completion date. So rail will have a home. But lot to do to get settled in, see if car will run, replace toilet as water valve kept leaking last trip. We will make trip if all goes well on both fronts. No room for delays!
-
Glad to hear that is finally coming together.
Hope everything aligns and you 2 can make the trip. Always good to see you but if there is a hiccup .....completely understandable.
I completely understand unforseen circumstances!!
-
DITTO!!!!
-
Sooooo, who all has their shit together and what days will you be there?
-
Well ill be there with scotts rail. At this point plan on being there for a wens morning ride. Kids will be coming Thursday I believe and as of last night, sounds like one of Denise's (brian) will be stopping by while he in Oklahoma city for a meeting. April 26 to 29 , site 636
-
Pulled rail out of trailer and into new garage home sat. Cranked and idle ok. New fluids, nut check and hopefully ready to play. New toilet in trailer clean up. Lube the screw jack! New tires for it too. Airbags going on truck and an oil change too. We will arrive Tuesday afternoon sometime. Been too long and will be 2yr before next. Smooooooth sand please
-
thats all good news. what happened to the toilet?
air bags or timbens?
-
Went to re install the winch in the camper last night and found out my bolts are an inch short. The floor must be inch thick osb. I will not rely on 1/4" lag screws to retain a winch pulling 2k lbs up an 8' ramp with a 36" incline. I drilled through Nd made a metL backing plate so the will have to take a 2 sq ft section of floor with it. Other then that, flush the water lines and check for leaks. We have a few nights this week hovering freezing but nothing below 33* so far.

My shit is totally scattered but hope to pull off a good ole "grunt ~n~ flush" this weekend.
The most awesomeness part, the rail needs backed out of the trailer, paddles swapped, fluids checked, axles greased, and load the little shit back up!
This is a first for me... Having a hard time taking it all in..
NOW all I have to do is prep a truck for the tug down that has never made this tug.
:nw
Hope to arrive Sun afternoon
-
I am assuming this trip is the week of 24th-28th?
-
Yes sir!!
-
Enemy,
Hope to arrive Sun afternoon?
Making a whole week of it?
Wash car wash inside of trailer. New toilet new fridge, new tires. Change oil in rail looked new just 2 yrs old.
Leaving sat am, got a couple side trips on way. Should be there Tue late afternoon.
Ant wait too see all. Have a safe ride down, and let the sand be smooooooooth!
-
ill be there for a wens am run! everyone have a safe drive .
got the winch better mounted, not how i would like to see it but atleast its bolt down and one end of the steel backing plate catches the frame members. should have new leaf springs on the front of the truck done tomorrow. im paying someone else to swap them out as i have plenty to do right now. only thing left on scotts rail is to delete the 2 psi residual pressure valve and biasing valve off the front brakes. no idea why he added that but there is enough drag on the front it makes noise and those little noises drive me crazy! ;) added a qt of starch to one front tire and i have the eliminator paddles aired up checking to how fast the leak down. those paddles tires are heavy compared to my sport tire of america 1450's.
i forsee a good dune trip!!
-
leaf springs on the front? what are you driving?
-
Replacing the leaf springs on the front of the pick up.
-
Your truck has leafs on the front? Huh.
-

Yep. Ford didn't switch over to coil over until 2010 i think. Maybe sooner but not positive.

Thoughts on a group dinner? As in what time and which night? I think Sylvia is popping in thurs.

Then I vote Thur. Always down for the big spread!
-
Thursday for sure if Sylvia won't be leaving early. Maybe we need to eat about 5 so she can maybe make it and not have to head back too late. I assume she isjust making a day trip?
-
Sylvia says noon on thursday will work for her.
Mike says he's making apple cobbler.
-
We shall whip up some Yvette’s world famous meatballs (hopefully) and a grape salad.
Ice cream another night 😊
-
I'm good with a noon dinner.
-
I am planning beef/vegetable stew and cornbread.

That forecast will change daily. I expect some rain but doubt it will rain all day. Might need to bring the pop up canopy!
Wet sand it more fun lol ill cut up some fire wood for the trip.
-
I should be there Sunday, I want to test out the new shock tune.
-
The forecast isn't getting a bit better. It was supposed to be a week of low/mid 70's but......................oh,hell no, not now. A week of low 50's and wet. They better be wrong. Of course I have heat and heated seats........It still would have been nice if we still was forecast for 5 days of low/mid 70's.
-

That reminds me I want to put a couple turns here and there on the bypasses. We should be there Sunday around 4 .

Shock tuning is fun. Not bad to change valving either. Hope you get there or atleast a lot closer.

Wet and highs in the 50's sucks! Been through 2 trips like that. I was going to shoot down tues evening but might leave wens morning early as it appears its going to rail all day. I'm hoping thursday/Friday are rideable.
We dropped to 32* last night and stating 25* for a low tonight.
-
Obviously the forecasts are constantly changing but as of right now, wens looks to be a miserable day for during. Light rain almost all of the morning waking up to 40* and a light rain......not great. Cloudy with periods of rain for the afternoon and high of 55*. I can work with that but if the forecast holds, thurs and Friday will be nice days for dunning. Well, compared to up here anyway ;)
-
Your forecast reads differently than what I see.
-
3 weather site 3 forecast. In wrong business. Wed looks drizzle w storm eve night. Thur Fri are ok. We watching weather and will try to plan arrival when not raining lol. Tue or we’d just after lunch
-
weather.com forecast has changed slightly from yesterday at noon ;D
-
Just need a quick wipe down of the trailer, load the rail and winter clothes ;D and ready for the trip. Cut 4 trees up yesterday that I dropped last year. Got a feeling we will need a fire or 2 to keep warm. Didnt he room for any more after I loaded the smoker and 2 paddle tires plus a bucket of pellets. I put my weigh safe hitch in last night. I wanted to see mostly empty tongue weight and want to how the rail effects it loaded. That last trip with the rail pulled in was bad!
Dune sport said 7200 empty and 1200 lbs tw. I have prob 200 lbs of totes under the bed and dishes still loaded. No clothes , food, liquids in the holding tanks or the rail.

So looking like bout 1250 on the pin? Interested to see how that will balance with the tail heavy rail in the back..
I be headed in a southerly direction tomorrow, making a stop in BFE Kansas to work on a tractor, then if all works out at the dunes Tuesday eve or Wed late morn.
-
that pic is of the toyhauler empty!
spend some time last night trying a couple of different positions loading the rail to see what it does to the tongue weight. pulled in with engine to the rear is 700 lbs tw.......waaaaaay to light. backed in with front tires touching ramp gate is 1200 lbs tw and backed all the way in is 1400 lbs tw. thats only 1 foot farther back too and scotts rail is heavy so i am guessing 2000 lbs like mine. his is rear engine vs mine being mid engine. dune sport said 7200 lbs empty and 1200 lbs tw. they were right about tw but have not weighed the toyahuler itself. the first trip down was horrible as anyting over 60 with a side wind and it got to swaying really bad. this is why i bought the weigh safe hitch so i could get it correct. guessing 10k lbs loaded so min 1000 lbs tw and was shooting for 1200 lbs tw. seem to have hit my mark! i will be heading down at 6am.
-
getting ready to head out. see everyone there and i hope the rain has stopped for the duration of the trip!
-
Should be great Thurs and MAYBE Friday.
-
Well, another group gathering is in the bag. Even though there was WAY too much rain, the runs we did get in were really good. We just get faster and better each time. All in all,I had a great time........................between the damn rains. I do love the wet sand.
-
always a good trip with our group for sure. even with ruptured fuel tanks :m even though we only got two runs out of the rail before we lost 20 gals of fuel....... we def got some good info for which way to go. re valve the rear shocks, eps and good 5 point harness's.
fabr, you might just win that bet after all ! i was going to stick out the cold rain until the roof starting leaking in two places. it started dripping out of the fresh air return directly in to the middle of our bed! that was the last straw, loaded up in the rain and headed home. fought wind all the way to york neb.
-
Rain rain rain, but some excellent rides in between.
Then last day the Jeffco go boom.
But who cares right now...

-
brian N, thanks for taking my daughter for a run out on the dunes!
need to give a shout out to jerry for welding the pos offroad " fuel cell " back together.
ordered a new steel boxed fuel cell with a bladder. for many reasons but especially the reason in the last picture! my grandson loves sand rails.
even though it was only 2 very lucky runs, scotty's rail lived again!
-
Budlight69, sorry to hear you had to leave early. I hope everything turned ok or as best as possible!
