Hi Bird, the oil is flowing through the cooler under pressure. It doesnt matter which way up it is.

iF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT OIL CHANGE TIME, SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OF RESIDUAL OIL ISNT GOING TO MAKE NAY DIFFERENCE. Damn Caps....... sorry, wasnt yelling  ;D

For flow, I agree with Artie.
In my opinion, it is important to have both the outlets at the top so that when you start the engine the engine is not starved for oil by having to fill the cooler up first which drained while the engine was off ;)

The ends need to face up, but for the opposite reason you said.  Facing down allows all the oil to flow back into the motor, and for startup, you will have too much oil in the motor until it pushes it's way back up to and fills the cooler, especially if you have long oil lines running to a cooler that is a few feet behind and above the engine like I do........

VDC,I'd suggest you find a bike shop that has salvage bikes and see if they have one laying around cheap.

What engine are you running? I'd think the busa cooler would be fine.Get the stock fittings also from yoshi if you get one of his so you will be able to adapt it easily.

Unless he's running the cooler in the stock location for a busa, the stock fittings won't do any good, they are pressed lines.    I have my own fittings built...

All he would have to do is take a torch to the stock fittings and they come apart. They are just brazed.VDC needs this on the cheap and that is cheapest way for him.

not sure what you have, but all the stock busa fittings I have (and have seen) don't come apart like your saying, they are crimped to the hose, and welded to the tube....

Unless your saying heat the fitting itself up, and that it's not actually welded but "brazed", but he would have to have someone braze them to more tube, then crimp to more hose, correct?

those crimped collars will come off with a cut off wheel and some patience.  New collars would have to be sourced to crimp on the new hose.

For him just braze in a modified hose barb. It will work just fine. There's not much pressure in an oil cooler.

YES ,I have done it. Braided lines look cool and such but in all the years I raced I had more failures/leaks/problems with AN fittings by far compared to the cheapo hose barbs and such.IF regular disassembly is needed I always use braided and AN fittings. For VDC he needs cheap and effective.

I've never had a problem with my fittings or lines. I know it's overkill, but I run the 3000 psi hydraulic lines for my rails, and I like the 45/90 swivel elbows to attach them to the cooler and the motor.....

OK ,fine,so do I but VDC's budget isn't in that range.

I meant I use AN fittings and braided  not 3000 PSI hydraulic stuff. Nothing wrong with it ,it's just a bit stiff for my liking tho.

Well that's a question that only can be answered with oil temp.Do you have a way to check it?

Is the cooler mounted where it will get direct airflow?

it will be.

On your budget run it and forget it.
