looking down inside the crank case l can see little bits of metal lying in the bottom 

Andy, how did the big end stand up?  If only the clutch bearing was replaced you might find that the other main bearing, as well as the big end and conrod will soon need replacing too.  Flushing won't remove all the metal, those bearings will have been hammering metal and getting damaged themselves.

Once the Pilot's running again you might be able to hear the damaged bearings, at first it takes a discerning ear, but rest assured, with running time, the noise will become more pronounced!

hi Camel

well apart from the damaged bearing everything else seemed to be fine, so  thats all thats was replaced,
seems to go so much better now maybe the bearing had been tight for a while ?
l took it out on tuesday slowly at first and gradually uped the pace
sounds ok to me but with Lee's fire breathin monster 800 2" off my back bumper it was hard to hear anthing except his rotax singing
