Title: Sand Rail Wraps
Post by: CrazyFastFab on November 16, 2013, 07:30:02 PM
Has anyone tried a wrap?  I was entertaining one of these.

Does anyone have another place to use or comments about these?

Thanks,

Same here. I'm concerned about sand and mud damage . On the other hand, when I break a FG panel it can be easily re"painted" with a wrap .

Where's Ds?   Used put wrap on old blue rail. Pretty cheap eBay stuff then had clear sprayed over it.

i'm right here. just getting older so  you'll have to stop and wait for me  rofl rofl

not a bad price and the laminated outer layer at first sounds like a good idea but w/o it and you coat with a quality clear coat say 2 coats, it will shine 4 times better and polish up better than the laminate outer layer so if they offer w/o and you know someone or can spray like a good ppg clear then I would go that route. you can find good ones on e-bay for a little cheaper and larger sized than most need and the cut off's are useful too.

I like the red and black personally and for a little more they'll make you hood and trunk which will do a wing trunk and hood if you have one. they don't come with the vynal laminate if I recall but verify all !! to be sure.

so which do you like best?

clear coated seemed to be more durable and better look, the slight scuffs shoes and boots left in it getting in and out were easy to polish off by hand and that vynal laminate was on the hood no less but I set stuff up there and it was permanent once scuffed.

to ask why $350 and $100.......who knows if you call he'll prob tell you better quality vynal and prob true but who really knows.

ok so I bought another set of vynal grafix for my current rail.  the side panels look close to this pic but more full and more red in them. $195 shipped for more than enough to do the side panels , hood, roof, wing trunk and it's side panels, radiator shroud and center console if I choose to. this guy was nice enough to lay out the hood, roof, trunk combo as one piece and send me pics of different possibilitys.  they will have to be clear coated of course but I pre-fer that and with enemy as a friend that's not a problem  ;D ;) ;)

Not really. Fixing panels on the race truck is a major hassle with the wrap. When you bash a panel the wrap gets messed up also. It no long peels right off. It can take hours to remove and it has to come off before you can fix the glass.

that's why we try and avoid those problems  rofl rofl  ;D  it will look good to me and give it a finished look and if it gets damaged then sh$t happens lol

I was thinking more along the lines of just replacing the part entirely and hadn't thought about repairing. Thanks for the heads up.

Depends on whether I decide to be mostly incognito or if I want to draw attention. I'll likely do monocolor. That seems to get overlooked more easily.I'm not really into drawing attention.

It was the car that roosted you not driver, I didnt throw sand the tires did.  I sold that car, but I think I have the guys number.  Tried to get him to come out.  He'd had a blast, since I'd worked out the bugs on green car.

If you want monocolor like I do. Here is a cheap option that my daughters boyfriend turned me onto. I want to get rid of the red PLASTIC on my car which makes a wrap or vinyls my only option, so I thought.

He cut plastic coat down 50/50 with thinner and sprayed his car. Once black the he did blue. It actually turned out pretty damn sweet and cheap!!!!!! And peels right off when you are tired of it or want to change colors. I will be trying this in the spring. Smart kid.
