Tire width vs. wheel width
« on: April 27, 2009, 02:09:23 PM »
I'm looking at buying a 26x12x12 tire (Kenda Executioner) and it sure appears that it's hard to find any wheel over 7~8 wide.  Is it normal to squeeze the tire that much?  It'll be mostly driven on semi hard pack desert type terrain.  It just seems like you'd want at least a 10" wide rim with a 12" wide tire.  Does anybody know where there's a chart for recommended tire width vs. wheel width that addresses ATV size tires?

Thanks, Lance

7"-8" seems to be the norm for a 12" tire, It allows the tread face to round

I used 10" on my 26/12/12 Kenda Bearclaws.Kept the face nice and square to the ground.
