Trailer Electrical
« on: May 23, 2014, 10:04:49 AM »
Ok, I've installed an inverter in trailer to run 120v from the 12v battery.  Battery is charged thru 7-way.  7 way is limited to 30A (I think).  If the inverter pull more than 30a, will it pop fuse or just pull excess from trailer battery.  When fridge kicks on its 4A at 120v so about 40A at 12v.

What say you??

Put a battery in the trailer.
Charge it from 7 pin.

Thats what I have set up.  Just didnt want to pop fuse on 7 pin if inverter called for more.

Depends on how you are wired in. Is the inverter connected directly to the battery? Is battery in the trailer? I assume so. If that is the case you are OK. Let truck alternator charge battery thru 7 pin.

Best to put one way switch in line with the seven pin to truck.  Would not want to run truck batt's down to.

If I believe I cannot do something it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe that I can, then I acquire the ability to do it , even if I didn't have it at the beginning.

That's why I suggest the trailer have it's own battery with a battery isolator to do it right. That way you can charge both batteries from the truck and not worry about discharging truck battery even if trailer battery completely discharges.
