1989 yamaha fzr 1000

hi i just found a 1989 yamaha fzr1000 for sale for 1500$ (the complete bike) did anyone ever used one of those in a buggy? im planning on buying it to put in a 2 seater buggy and i would like some information if anyone ever used one to see if they had any problems & how fast & torquy it is

is that liquid or air cooled?  those yamahas were well known for having 2nd gear issues.. make sure the 2nd gear isnt jacked up.  usually it will hold in gear untill about 6,000rpms under load... so that would be the major issue to look out for

1500 for a bike that's from 89 and not a popular (read not easy to part out) platform might not be such a great deal?  Proceed with caution????

good point lance.  alot of extra money since your buying the whole bike.  use that 1500$ to find a good gsxr600 or yzf-r6 with complete wiring.

I'm not trying to change your mind about it, but have you thought about running a snowmobile setup? Looking at the map for the link you posted it looks like there would be more sleds than bikes around you. It's at the end of sledding season so stuff SHOULD be cheaper. The FZR made ~135 hp, any decent sled engine will make around the same. Just tossing it out there.........

yeah but the sled setup will be alot more work because of the belt and belts dont do good in water/mud i would have to make an belt case sealed

well i can tell you that a mid 2000's gsxr600 will smoke a 1989-95 fzr/yzf1000....atleast in the bike.

heres a vid of my buggy with a 2003 gsxr600 fuel injected motor..




ive never needed more power for any of the terrain ive been in except deep sand, but it did fine in deep sand... dirt, grass, gravel, mud.... no problem.  im geared plenty low and can still hit over 80mph.  gear it lower for a top speed of say 60mph and you could pull stumps.   Im just saying you can get a better engine for your money by not buying a complete bike :)

can anyone of you guys tell me what are the pros & cons of a 2 cylinder motor bike & of a 4 cylinder & the difference between the 2

Pros - Fewer spark plugs.  Generally more torque if you are talking V.  Cons - size.   Deep vs 4 cyl inline.

If both engine are 1000 cc the inline 4 has 4 250 cc cylinders that run crossways. The V has 2 500 cc cylinders that are front and back.  The larger cylinders have more torque but don't rev as high. Depends where you'll drive it.
