Gear-One Rack & Pinion
« on: June 27, 2010, 07:11:12 PM »
Anyone else use one of these mismade units? Anyone else ever had to re machine the top cover to relieve binding?

Was it tight off the car before you machined it or after you bolted it up?

The only time I have seen a rack bind is when the mounting points are not flat........

The slot in the top cover was off by more than .100" . It would slide until I tightened down the 2 large bolts that attach the tie rod adapter. When tightened the rack would bind solid. Had nothing to do with the rack mounting points. Rack was bound up whether on or off the car.   Hell I could bind it up just by snugging the 2 bolts up hand tight it was so bad. Shitty quality control and inspection.

More of the " don't care-it's shiny you'll love it attitude" IMO.  Nothing made by G1 will ever again be used on any of my stuff.

The Snuggy will not fit since G1 thinks it funny to make the bolt pattern just a bit off from everyone else. Just about 3/4ths of a hole. MORE G1 BS.
